Very dark urine

Posted , 4 users are following.

I've been having typical gallbladder pain on and off for about 4 weeks. Blood tests (that I requested just before the pain started because I wanted to know my cholesterol were all normal, including LFTs). Had an scan which showed normal pancreas, liver, gallbladder and kidneys. 4 days ago started to feel nauseous and noticed my urine had become very dark. Went back to the GP who sent me to emergency assessment where blood tests found my liver is "working too hard" and they're arranging a CAT scan for this week. I started to feel better yesterday and even woke up quite hungry this morning, but I've been knocked back again by the colour of my urine, so dark again, like tea without milk. I am a worrier where my health is concerned unfortunately. I'm really hoping it's gallstones or gallbladder inflammation and not something bad with my liver. Can anyone else relate to the dark urine? I look well, no jaundice. Thank you.

    ceri.

honestly how much water are you drinking ?

Probably not as much as when I'm in work and I did have about 10 hours in bed last night without getting up for a wee so I expect this morning's was pretty concentrated. I'm drinking constantly throughout today.

well i think you should drink say 3 litres of water a day having a mouthfull every 5 mins and continue this for a week , make a concouse effert and do it for a week , monitering yr pee all the while , whice by day 2 should be straw colour and further morei think it will.

then if after that your pee is still very dark, then you dohave a problem .

let me know how it goes.

      and dont worry .

the trouble WITH WORRYIS IT GIVES YOU SOMETHING TO DO, BUT GETS YOUNOWHERE ?

its like runniing on the spot.

hello, yes i had dark urine and it would be orange in colour sometimes but all my blood tests were coming back normal i was going mental to be honest. they told me dark urine is because of bile issues i had my gallbladder removed in march this year and my urine is back to normal now. i suffered two years plus and im still not better atm but they told me nothing they can do as i will either get better with time or i will just be unlucky and remain in the category of the 40 percent that will always have issues. id keep on to the gp for blood tests because at one point i had bad issues with my liver and it took them ages to notice be careful for the infections they creep up on you when you least expect it.

if you can control the situation they will tell you thats best cause removal isnt always the right option and keep an eye out for intolerances ask them to test you for celiac dont let them make you wait like i had too it ruins your life and its miserable everyday x

hi Rachie and thanks. My most recent blood tests last Friday did show an issue with my liver so I'm now waiting for a CT scan hopefully this week. I feel dreadful at the moment but am forcing myself to eat, though only about half the amount I normally eat so I am losing weight. And I know I shouldn't worry but because I've always had such good health I'm the world's worst patient and always imagine the worst. The urine has got a bit lighter as the day has gone by, this morning's was very alarming!

Dark urine for me too for nearly two years.

I wont tell you my whole story as it will be 40 pages long but what i can say is i have every gallbladder symptom going and i'm SICK of living in pain and i started to complain to my GP of this 2 months short of 3 years ago.

I was referred for surgery nearly 2 years ago but still have my gallbladder after fob offs, bungles and dealing with rude and aggressive medical secretaries.

It's got to the point that i went to see my GP last week for the 28th time in 2 years and probably close to 50 in the 3 years, took my partner who recorded the consultation as i was last seen by the hospital gastro in December, was told i would be seen again within 3 months and in 6 days time that was 8 months ago!!!

    Good luck to ya👍

I assume you're in the UK Matt? What has happened to our precious NHS? I' ve had to be almost a permanent fixture at my GP's over the last 4 weeks but have to say the hospital was good and I'm having an urgent scan asap. I hope you get your issues resolved soon. By the way would your 40 page story have included nausea by any chance?

Hi Ceri, Yes i'm in the UK. In East Sussex so namely East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust which is in a mess.

Yes plenty of nausea in fact pretty constant to be honest.

Good luck with your scan and keep us posted👍

Ceri, How did your scan go?

What type of scan was it?

Hi Matt, well I had a CT scan which showed everything normal. Also my symptoms have 99% gone, just occasional twinges in the gallbladder area. I have no idea what it was all about and hopefully won't get it again but I have a feeling it was gallbladder related and it does seem that only one episode in a lifetime is very rare.
