Very demoralized due to ongoing sinus issues, please help me understand what's happening

Hi all. I wouldn't post here if I had not gotten to a very difficult place. I already have really bad health anxiety. Now I am dealing with something I have never dealt with before.
A month ago I was diagnosed with influenza A. It seemed mild. But then two weeks later I started to see little green chucks come out of nose. And I noticed a lot of congestion. I seem less plugged up during the day. But during the night I feel it the worst. It's especially bad in whichever nostril is facing down when I sleep on my side. And I get that constant feeling of a lump in throat like I need to swallow. And when I blow my nose, it's sometimes clear but I'll also get some green with occasionally a little blood in it. And the back of neck hurts. And overall I just feel lousy.
My main doctor prescribed Augmentin and I'm on day four. Doesn't seem to be making much difference.
Do any of these symptoms sound strange to you? Is it normal to still have green stuff coming out of your nose after almost three weeks? Does this sound like sinitus or could it be something else? Nasal cancer? Should I be worried?
I just think it's odd that my body would not have fought this virus off by now and now it seems the antibiotic is not working as well. Please help. Maybe it would help to hear others have experienced something similar?

Yes, typically it goes away after 2 weeks, but sometime it lingers to 3-4 weeks or longer.
At least you can take Augmentin for it, I'm allergic. I'm limited to what I can take.
As long as you don't have other symptoms, you should be fine.

And if that antibiotic doesn't work, they can give you a different one.

Thank you for the reply? What are the other symptoms one could have that would be worrisome? How long have you been dealing with yours?

None of the symptoms that you describe sound strange and NO you should not be worried, but as you have really bad health anxiety I guess that isn't going to help that much for you 😃
Do you have a history of sinus issues, if so what are they and for how long...?
Although I do understand that you have noted "never dealt with before".
Do you use irrigation..? If not consider doing so as that tends to be very helpful. IMO irrigation is one of the best things that a person can do with "simple" sinus issues. What I mean by "simple" is that for some the trigger isn't necessarily a cold but could be an allergy and so for them it is removing of dealing with the allergy that can have the best effect.
Overall the use of oral antibiotics tends to be quite ineffective in my opinion when using to help with sinus issues, I have had chronic sinus problems for many years and they have never helped me.
I have had yellow or green mucous coming out of my nose, throat for several months at a time - that is how it can be with chronic sinus issues.
Keep up drinking lots of water, to help to thin the mucous. Be aware that for some consuming lots of dairy can cause mucous issues.
When you get a cold in the future consider if taking a liquid medicine which contains a decongestant, for some this can help to thin the mucous.
Always blow your nose, gently, and not snuffle the mucous back.
Take care and try and not worry too much, Google isn't your friend with health anxiety 😃

i had the throat lump thing- currently going to acupuncture and found the underlying problem is caused from worry/ stress that creates these patterns. Go to an ENT specialist too. chronic things usually come from multiple infections- you could have bacterial and viral. I also had an underlying candida problem, affects sinuses and can be worse after taking antibiotics. Usually a natropath can test for candida, dont' think regular doctors do, but they should since it's so common and worry/ diet related

Thank you all for the information. Is there any other condition other than sinitus that would cause green debris to still be coming from your nose after over two weeks? I just can't get over how much I have read that bacterial sinus infections are rare. And obviously if it were allergies or an obstruction, it would be clear. I just don't get it and that is what has me so scared.

Dusty,
I had the exact same as you green mucus and sinus pressure, i also had continuous post nasal drip.
Took over a year to figure out what the problem was, i tried everything, scans / allergy tablets / nasal rinses / oil steam inhaliation / baby shampoo up my nose / Antibotics
i was under immunolgy and ENT, neither had a clue. One day i come across the link between sinusitis and Acid reflux although i never got heartburn or any other symptoms. Took anti-acids for 2 months and im good as new. Had a camera down that confirmed a weak LES.

Hi Danny
If you don't mind me asking you what anti-acids are you needing to take to maintain that good as new feeling.?
Reading your posts you seem to have experienced what I do.
Going from ENT to a gastro specialist with umpteen tests and cameras is exhausting.
The gastro specialist isn't convinced of anything other than functional reflux, as he calls it. That's fine but doesn't resolve my issue.
I am recovering from my second sinus surgery but my overall throat and thickened mucous situation improves more when anti-acids are used, even tho using PPI's did nothing for me.
The amount of times that I irrigate, using various solutions to try and improve my situation is ridiculous.
So please could you tell me the anti-acids that you use, if they are brand names maybe a private message as there could be issues posting that here.
Also dietary wise have you made any big changes to help yourself.?
Thanks in anticipation. Take care.
