very depressed

hi-i had my rthr at the end of january,up till 3 or 4 weeks ago i thought i was coming on fairly well, starting to walk outside without crutches, feeling positive after a "one step forwards, two back two back"recovery.admittedly im just back from a weeks holiday, where i did a fair amount of walking, not wanting to spoil it for my friend, was in a lot of pain while there, now home,im just back from an hours walk with my dogs where every step hurt, and tired me so much i fell asleep!(when i got back!)
i get a dull hip pain when ive walked a long way-i expect that-but not the pain in the right side of my backside-which also hurts when im sitting on anything hard, and im wondering if this could be a tear in the glute, anyone had one of these?what happens, time to heal or another op?
also my right knee is agony,i cant get comfy at night, theres pains shooting up and down from the knee, and its quite sharp when i walk,too-i have arthritis in my knees but its never been this bad.
i hardly dare mention my back, now!but thats painful, lower back, right side,in a nasty little knot of pain after ive been walking a while,so you can see why im depressed, ive had pain for so long now,i cant see it ever going, giving up isnt an option, not when ive 3 collies wanting regular walks(im not complaining,my dogs are a reason to get up in the morning,i love them).but till this last year ive always been very fit,and im not coping at all well.do i just shoulder on or ask for help? thanks x

Hi Pam
I would still walk but cut down the time your walking. More short walks rather than longer walks. Focus on your heel toe walk. Massage your glutes especially glute minimus ( the outside of your glute) a firm small massage ball is good. Go get a remedial massage, in particular focus on hamstring & glutes as these get so tight.
Definitely go get a second opinion if you are in pain. I hope rest & cutting back on the time you walk for helps. Give things a chance to settle.
All the best.

One thing I've noticed is way too many people are so excited about their new hip and are pain free that they tend to overdo it!
Slow down!!!
Sometimes when you push yourself too much, you end up pushing yourself two steps back!
Let your body be your guide.
When you have pain...STOP...REST!
You'll get there, just give it time.

Try to enjoy the time of not doing too much. With busy lives, it's not often that we can do that.
You're not being lazy. You're being smart about your recovery and taking it at the necessary pace for you.

Hi Pam, I felt I wanted to reply to you because I know how your feeling, I had my op last Nov and had complications then infections and at 55 I felt I should be recovering quicker than I was, I had the pains your talking about started about 2 weeks ago , saw my surgeon a week ago and had X-rays and everything as it should be with my hip but I didn't realise I was walking to over compensate putting pressure on my operated side which was causing back and leg pain, this was because I now have a heel spur which was sore to walk on so to cut a long story short, anti inflammatory tabs and insoles in my shoes and walking straighter and after a week back pain and leg pain disappeared, still have to sort the spur out and might have to have steroid injection but what I am saying is something as simple as walking without realising not straight can cause pain elsewhere, you also have to learn to accept we are not all the same and recovering takes different times for the unique people we are, I also have been really depressed but I promise you there is light at the end of the tunnel when you get there, take it easy kind regards avril
