Very dry area inside nose on my septum

Hi everyone,

I have this problem with my nose for many years, and have been to many ENT specialists too, they prescribed various ointments, some with antibiotics, steroids, etc, but my problem is not going away completely. It may be better sometimes, but keep coming back.

There is some very dry area at the base of my septum in my right nostril. I keep picking my nose, to try to get rid of it. I tried leaving it alone, but then it feels like it grows, spreads further, and I am afraid not to spread somewhere deeper where I cannot reach it anymore. It's not very deep inside, close to the opening of the nose.

We went for a long trip to Australia this summer, and I didn't pick my nose there, maybe only washed a little when I was in the washroom. By the time we came home it looked really bad - like in this picture:

Then I started gently picking and rubbing off parts of it after I came home, and now after a couple weeks looks much smoother, like this:

(I took these pictures with a micro camera, I thought it's safe to use, I didn't have to stick in deep, just shine the light in from my nostril)

I think my right nostril is more narrow than the left, I think I have a bit of deviated septum, but the ENT specialists usually told me is very minor, and not worth to do a surgery. My nasal turbinates are big too, someone suggested to have a turbinate reduction with radiofrequency. I think the turbinates can get big from certain irritants too, or maybe because I keep picking my nose too. I also have allergy for dust and pollen. I am also very sensible for AC or chilly winds blowing to my face, when I breathed in the chilly air in the subway, sometimes I had sharp pain in my nose. I was a bit hesitant to reduce my turbinates, I thought they are swollen to protect me, but I am not sure if they are actually more sensible this way and causing more pain.

I thought if that wound would go away from my septum, then I wouldn't need to pick anymore, and it would solve my problem.

I am not sure if it's just dry skin, and keeps peeling off, or it's somthing else, like fungi for example that keeps growing.

My last ENT specialist told me that they don't have anything for treating fungi. I have tried antibiotic ointments before, but those kill bacteria only, and it's probably not that.

I am hoping that someone saw some similar simptoms and can tell me what this is.

Thanks a lot,

Steven
