My doctor perscribed me 50mg of sertaline for anxiety. A few hours after taking first pill i felt extremely nauseous and couldnt eat. i continued to take them for two more days and couldnt sleep or eat from such bad nausea it feels like my stomach is clenching all the time. I lost 8 pounds in the 3 days on them. i stopped taking them a day and a half ago but still cant eat from nausea and my head feels funny. could this be a bad reaction to the drug. any help would be appreciated

Michael this is the same reaction many of us had. I was on this drug for 10 months and always had adverse reactions. I perservered, due to my Dr. In hindsight, I had a year of suffering. Drs. don't take these drugs, so don't know how they affect some people. I was one who did not do well on ssri's.. this I concluded after trying three different ones. I've been totally off this drug for 7 months and still have withdrawl symptoms.

i also lost weight at the outset with the symptoms you describe. I then gained 30 lbs., as I had an insatiable appetite! I'm now working to take this weight off!

It's your choice whether you continue and hopefully things will impove. You could try a different A.D. or try and control your anxiety in other ways. I was also on them for anxiety due to several life stressors. I saw a therapist and now exercise on the treadmill three days per week.

I wish you well on this journey and whatever path you chose. Keep us posted.

Hi, I was also prescribed this drug for anxiety and to be honest I didn't like it at all , I had the cramps, even my feet were cramping and I was sweating a lot during the night I couldn't eat and felt like crap anyway after 2 weeks I started to feel better and had this incredible High feeling which after a few days was followed by an incredible low ! I decided to come off the drugs and had withdrawal symptoms similar to what I experienced when I first started taking them , I saw it through and now feel like my normal self, I still have anxiety but I'm going down the alternative aproach , massage, breathing technics and exercise , I find this really helps especially the breathing . I hope this helps and I hope this finds you well. Take care and if you want to ask anything then feel free.

thanks for the all input. I think im gonna go down the road of exercise, massage therapy and breathing exercises. i think the side effects of the pills make me feel worse then my actual anxiety attacks do.
