Very odd symptoms?

Hello. I'm just looking for some advice really, as I've experienced some strange episodes recently.

About a week ago I was at work as normal, sitting at my desk, and a very strange feeling came over me. It almost felt like I was going to faint, I felt a bit vacant and found it difficult to focus on moving things. This lasted about a minute or so, which was followed by feeling very hot and the need to go to the toilet for a number 2. All of that day I had to go to the toilet on a number of occasions. I felt so tired and exhausted after the episode and that night slept for 12 solid hours. The next day I felt fine.

I've just had a second episode, similar to the one I had before but not nearly as bad. Again I experienced the vacant feeling, followed by hotness and the need to go to the toilet. This time it only lasted a few seconds. I feel tired now, but I have had a very busy day.

I'm 38 years old and I wondered if these odd feelings were down to a hormonal thing or a sudden drop in blood pressure or something. I'm generally fairly healthy, but I do not like this feeling at all and do find it slightly scary.

And help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not in the medical profession but to me it sounds like IBS.

Not sure if I'm right but maybe look into it as IBS can make you feel a bit dizzy/lightheaded.

I do suffer from IBS, but I've never had these symptoms before. I'll have check on this though, so thank you for pointing it out. I never thought that it could be connected to IBS.

these sound like anxiety to me, i often get issues with focus, heat and quite faint - typically this happens before some panic - but mostly due to me worrying about them so much. interestingly though, i suffer from ibs also...

It's a really horrible feeling isn't it. It's almost like I'm not in control of my own body for a few minutes. I have been under a lot of stress recently which has caused my IBS to flair up more so than usual, so perhaps there is a connection?

for sure its horrible, indeed an increase in stress then increases anxiety - which then just runs riot, its really nasty indeed. my health anx usually is the first to get hit hard when stress is higher

My symptoms seem to appear out of the blue though. I might not necessarily be consciously thinking about something that could put me in to a state of anxiety, however this awful feeling comes over me and I feel exhausted and crappy after it. The whole episode in itself makes me feel panicky that there is something really wrong with me. Sounds bloody stupid i know, but I really would do anything to make it stop.

i know what u mean, it only needs to happen a couple of times and our brains learn - then without concious thought we're in it again. it just takes time to manage. a lot of time sometimes unfortunatly

    Hi wickedwooser,

when I am very stressed or worried it seems to hit my digestive system first! I had a lovely and relaxing evening with my parents, brother and his fiancée last night but have just had a very explosive trip to the loo (sorry if you're eating breakfast!). Nothing I ate last night, I'm sure - but earlier in the day I'd been experiencing an awful mood swing that had me feeling agitated and grumpy for most of the day. My husband got back from work yesterday and didn't feel up to going out and my mood then swung to very weepy! Period started this morning - good old hormones at work again!

However, as your symptoms appeared out of the blue I would go and see your doctor. As you say, could be a dip in blood pressure, could be hormones, could be something or nothing much - but worrying about it won't help (I should know - my husband has always said I'm not happy unless I'm worrying about something - no matter how trivial!) and the doctor may be able to shed some light on it.

    Good luck x
