Very painful right eye

I'm looking for any advice. I've always had sensitive eyes and my optician said I had dry eyes. This past year, my left eye has become less bothersome but my right eye has gone crazy. I react to nearly everything I put on my face or hands; my right eye goes very dry, my eyelid feels like it curls and, therefore, my eye doesn't shut properly. It waters most of the time and burns.

I've stopped using moisturiser, face wash, hand cream, my normal shampoo and liquid soap. It's as if anything with fumes (even though they're products for sensitive skin) sets it off.

I've spoken to my GP but she only prescribed drops that were useless.

The best eye drops I've found are Hycosan Extra, but even these don't work all of the time. It seems that sometimes they can make my eyes worse. I take an antihistamine every day and a nasal spray for bad post nasal drip. A cold eye mask sometimes gives temporary relief but not for long.

Sometimes (for about a couple of days at most), it feels as if there's nothing wrong with my eye. Then something sets it off and I'm back to square one.

I'd be so grateful if anybody could suggest anything else I could try.

Are you using enough of the Hycosan? When this problem starts you have to use eye drops like Hycosan many times during the day and every day and a good dollop before bed. You could try Carmize 1% drops...dont bother with the 0.5%. It certainly sounds like dry eye from your description. Do you use screens a lot? That is one of the main problems to have arisen from use of computer screens so do try to limit your screen time and give yourself a 10 minute break every hour. Also try to remember to blink very rapidly...we forget to blink when we use a screen. This can progress if not nipped in the bud now so do take care. I have had this problem for 15 + years and been through hell and corneal ulcers until I found a good regime.

Thanks for your reply. I only use the Hycosan sporadically as I found my eye seemed worse when I overused it. When I do use it, I use several drops at a time. I had worried that I was putting too many drops in - can you damage with overuse? My eye drops from the doctor are 0.5% so that must be why they don't work.

I work in a school, so not much screen use there. I do use my tablet a lot at home though; I need to cut down to see if that makes a difference.

My dad has some sort of tumour/growth in his eye and has been bothered with runny eyes for years. I'll make more of an effort with the Hycosan.

      Thanks.
