Very scared about liver disease or cirrhosis

Hi, I've been making myself increasing unwell this week following an alcohol binge again at the weekend.

I am terrified to the point I am now unable to function correctly in daily life. I have been a binge drinker on an off (but mainly on) since about 2003 at the weekends especially but not every weekend. I am 34 and female.

I had normal LFTs back in the summer twice, but I've since read that they don't always show liver disease. And now I'm petrified. I'm not sure how to carry on living with such worry, guilt and anger at myself.

I now have some discomfort after the weekend under my ribs at the front, my hair has been breaking for a while and I bruise easily. Completely freaks me out. Other than this, during the week I go to the gym and swimming, eat quite well (until the last couple of days) and try to be good. I'm now in a real mess and can barely function. 😢

Does anyone have any advice or help? Xx

Hi Cheekyaim, I can relate to the alcohol binges.  Mine were getting worse and more frequent.  I had tried abstinence a couple of times, for a year, then again for 3 years.  But alas, I kept going back for more (misery)!  The only thing that has helped me, and this is all I can talk of, I of course cannot talk for others who have various methods, groups etc for cutting down or giving up alcohol, but as I say, what worked for me was The Sinclair Method. Here is a link if you want to look into it. The more options you have to help you with your binges, the better choice you have to get some help that suits you.  All the best. https://www.c3foundationeurope.org/
