Very Sore

Hi everyone ,

My LS seems to have flared up massively recently I held a mirror down below after having a shower and by parting the lips I could see masses of white skin but on the inside it is Red Raw.

I am currently using dermovate ointment and wash with cetrabren when showering.

I have also noticed recently that when I went for a wee sometimes hardly anything comes out but just a trickle and yet I know I want to go. Is this related?

I also suffer from severe ME yet to be determined but it certainly has autommune disorder definately attached to its Neurological side, as I have loads of Neuro symtoms, and autoimmune disorders. I have been in hospital with acute asthma and a pulmonary Embolism this year so am struggling quite a lot at the moment. I had a hysterectomy back in 2005 and am on HRT to.

What I would like to know is what is causng the red rawness?

I also notice from all the posts that LS is an inflammatory condition and wonder if that is why my feet are full of inflammation and certanly inflammation is also linked to ME.

I have not participated in a physical relationship for over 13 years but fear that if I did this would not be possible due to shrinkage of this area. I remember after my diagnosis the Vulva specialist at the hospital asked me if I was having a physical relationship I presume this is so that some form of stretching could be done to allow this am I correct?

I appreciate reading everyones experiences as I beleive you can gain more from this site than any DR. My GP encourages me to also look after my own health,, as she knows I am proactive. It is certainly an eye opener.

I just checked BOOTS WEB MED and was surprised that they don't list this condition under Vaginal helath and if you search for LS directly there's nothing on it!!!

Thanks in advance to anyone that reads my posts and replies to me.

Hi sorry to hear your having such a tough time if it. Do you use a barrier cream after each wee it helps keep everything supple I use hydromol ointment you can buy it over the counter from boots or if you have a nice docter he may put it on prescription. Regarding weeing do you see a specialist for your LS as I would get them to check you out as it can fuse where your ureatha is. There is lots of information on here lots of people use aloe Vera gel and coconut oil also diet changes no gluten ect but before I would go down this route I would get a food intolerance test done hope this helps x

Hi Tracey sorry you are having such a bad te , it's so scary when you have a look sometimes. Is the red rawness you describe inside your vagina ? If so this could be Lichen Planus (it can also attack the mouth). I have both LS and LP and it is so painful. I use dermovate cream twice a week (prescribed by dermatologist ) and have started aloe Vera hell on LP several times a day and coconut oil on LP fusing to help stop anymore. Lots of people use a bicarbonate and water spray after bathroom visits but I'm wary of this because of the rawness. You really need to get this diagnosed properly by someone who specialises in vulval health. Good luck

Hi Tracey I can understand how you feel. Being red craw is not fun. Sometimes the rawness can make you feel like you need to wee more. Keep using your cream until you can tapper down abit and drink plenty of water. If the wee problem continues perhaps you may have a water infection so get it checked out. All the best

Oh dear...you do sound in a bad way...and yes, you should get a food intolerance test done. But in the meantime you need something to help yourself immediately until you can get that done. Please, please...stop all sugars, dairy...except maybe a very good yogurt, all the nightshade family...which includes potatoes (sweet potatoes are okay), eggplant, peppers & tomatoes, and go at least gluten free. Do this for a few weeks to calm your system down. Eat lots of fresh veggies, but don't go overboard on fruit...but have a nice variety. Lean meats, poultry, fish from good sources. Get your water in...carries away a lot of toxins.  Also, after carefully cleansing apply the 98% or higher aloe vera gel or the coconut oil to the area. Both are moisturizing and healing.  You might want to alternate them. Some do the bicarbonate of soda sitz baths.  If you do these they can help...but you only need about a couple of teaspoons of it in a good size pan of warm water. If that doesn't help then use a saline solution instead.  A scant teaspoon of salt per pint of warm water (this was my childrens doctors recipe...was great for diaper rash). I do hope you get some relief soon. I do know how miserable you are.  You mention you are proactive...so do try some of these things.  I know I have alleviated my symptoms with these things...so hopefully they will help you.

Hi Tracy, you poor thing! you have an awful  lot going on at the moment, and so I agree with Renee, if you have not already done so, I would seriously look at your diet, it is hard to believe the impact food can have until you stop eating some foods for a while, it is definitely worth a shot to try for some improvement.  I do think you need to go back to the Vulva clinic with regard to your problems with urinating, as some woman can have difficulties in this area, and some women do use vaginal dilators to keep the entrance of the vagina from closing in, or of course they have regular sex when not in a flare.   You will need to look at your undercarriage every day with a magnified mirror, and make sure you are not applying too much cream,  in a flare up I use less than a pearl sized blob of cream, and just in the right areas.  The steroid cream you are using should ideally just be applied to the outside of the vagina, and so if you are using this on the inside of your labia minora than maybe this is why it is so very sore, or it could be that you have Vaginal lichen planus, instead of Lichen Schlerous. Personally, I  think I would want to stop the cream for a day or so, take some regular salt water baths and see what happens, not everyone responds well to steroid cream, everyone is different.

You should check into the problem with emptying your bladder right away also. You do not want a bladder or kidney infection...that could get serious.  So don't let that problem go on.  They may have to do a little cutting to open the uretha...not pleasant...and if they do that you will want to sit in a warm bath the first couple of times you pee...as it will be very painful.  But an infection in your kidneys could do a lot of damage...and you don't want that.
