Very strange tinnitus

So I've had this condition for 5 years now. I guess I've been relatively lucky. Some episodes of dizziness/nausea. Tinnitus in left ear and one very bad episode 2 years ago when I had severe fullness in ear and loss of hearing too which was thankfully remedied by a course of steroids for a week or so and adding a diuretic to my daily intake. However, about 3 weeks ago I noticed a new kind of ringing in my ear. The tinnitus isn't flat, it vibrates/pulses when I move. It was accompanied by a noticeable drop in hearing too. After waiting 2 weeks to see if it would clear up itself ( this time of year can be awful) I finally had to go to a private ENT who did some tests and confirmed that I'd lost hearing when compared with my check up last November in the public health system. He couldn't explain this new form the tinnitus has taken but prescribed a course of steroids which I've finished today. And no improvement at all. Has anyone experienced the same? Does this mean the worsening tinnitus and hearing loss is finally permanent or could there still be a chance it will return to its previous level? Apart from steroids are there any other possible treatments? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
