Very worried about blurred vision

Hi. I'm really afraid I'm losing my eyesight. My eyes are really blurry often (like right now) so I'm not very productive at all.  Can anxiety get so bad that it can affect your eyesight?  Worse yet, right at the moment, I'm feeling dizzy and lightheaded also which I think is due to worrying about my eyes, so I'm now even more upset and actually shaky!  Arrrgggghh!  I can't stand this.  Anyone know about this or experience these things all at once?  I really feel like I could pass out or just up and drop dead any minute!  Seriously!

Hi Debra these are all very common anxiety symptoms.l have them at times and they are harmless.Try not to focus on them and do not start to think you are going to die.Try some relaxation techniques which you will on YouTube and do breathing techniques several times a day.Go to your doctor and ask to be referred to a therapist to help you with your anxiety

      Hi Marlene,

I am seeing a new therapist and we are addressing my anxiety and hypochondria.  It's helping, but I can't keep her at my side 24/7.   I've been a worrier about health since childhood when I would often stay awake as long as possible at night so that my heart wouldn't stop on me.  All the females on my moms side of the family were hypochondriacs, with my grandmother being the absolute Queen of the Hypochondriacs!  Hard to unlearn something after having been exposed to it constantly.

Blurred vision and dizzy spells. What helps me is taking a break from my phone

I have been wondering how the blurred vision can be related to smart phone and computer use.  What scares me is the sudden conglomeration of all these symptoms at one time.  This was the first time that has happened.

You will not go blind. Or drop dead.

anxiety can do all kinds of crazy things including blurring  your vision.  I have had that many many times and it's nothing serious. What happens is that when we're anxious sometimes our nerves anywhere in our body can get a little irritated even the nerves that control vision. Once you calm down the nerves seem to settle down. All anxiety  begins in the brain, so the key is to calm down your mind so the blurriness will calm down. When you get overly anxious about symptoms, the symptoms get worse and then you get more anxious so it's a vicious circle! You have to take the attitude of "everything will be fine. This is no big deal and it will subside "

    Because that is actually true.

Go to YouTube and look up meditations for anxiety or relaxation. A good one to start with is called "mindful meditation for relaxation by Glenn " use earbuds if you have them for a better effect.  Do this a couple times of day if you can. Negative thinking leads to fear for thinking which leads to symptoms. Try to stay positive. Don't forget to laugh and smile, stay active, stay social.

remember, any symptoms related to anxiety cannot hurt you. They can be weird and scary but that's all they can do! You are in control!

you will be fine once you get the anxiety under control 🌸🌸🌸

I really need to check out the you tube videos.  I really do need to relax, just can't seem to achieve this.

Anxiety does cause this.  Also, my eyes get blurry when I use my computer a lot if I don't use reading glasses.  Eye strain is classic blurry vision, coupled with anxiety will make you feel this way.  I thought the same as you.

I was reading something that said that to help avoid eye strain you should use the 20-20-20 excercise, which is to take a break from the computer screen every 20 minutes and look away at something about 20 feet away, focus on that for 20 seconds. It helps to reajust and relax your eyes.  Also, since you tend to not blind as often (18 times a minute on average) while at the computer, you should put a post-it note with the word "Blink" on it to remind yourself to do so.  I haven't tried that yet, but the refocus 20/20/20 thing seems to help.  I've been getting occular migraines frequently and often see jagged lines and visual waves. At least the optometrist says it's not macular degeneration, but I'm at risk for it.  He suggested taking Lutein and Zeaxanthin daily to help avoid MD since no one in the world could possibly eat the amount of dark green leafy vegetables  and other foods every day that are of benefit to your vision.

Today I am feeling less anxious and no where near as bad as I was yesterday.

You probably feel better now you realise you are not alone in this.  Anxiety is a real problem but there is loads to help which defo works.

I can vouch for the Lutin - I now take it in capsule form and have not had the blurry vision.  The 20 20 20 is correct also.  I stare out of the window into the trees to relax mine.
