Very worried with sertraline dose increase. 25 to 50mgs

Hey guys.

I posted a few days ago asking about the side effects of increasing from 25 to 50mgs of sertraline. I have been on 25 for 17 weeks now and have taken 50 about two hours ago. I know that the sertraline will be in my system now and the side effects should be less but two hours in I’m very fidgety and scared. I don’t know if I am doing this to myself in panicking or if I  having bad side effects.

Any comments would be helpful.

Thank you.

Do some deep breathing for at least 3 minutes Daniel.

25mg is an extremely low dose and 17 weeks is a very long time to stay on that dose. 50 mg is also considered really low.

You may get some side effects but you might not.

It's probably your anxiety getting the best of you.

    Try to keep busy

Watch some comedy and take your med at the same time every day

    And good luck

    Hi Daniel,

It sounds to me like this is anxiety rather than side effects, especially as it was only 2 hours after taking your first 50mg tablet. I know it’s hard but try not to be too scared, you have been on the tablets for 17 weeks now so you may be okay, and if you do get side effects they won’t be as bad as when you started. 25mg is considered a child’s dose so you would be unlikely to get great results from this, although some do, so try and think of it as a positive move as it will likely give you more relief in the long term. Good luck

Thank you both so much. I still can’t sleep and I am very restless. Have to keep fidgeting. I just keep telling myself it’s only adrenaline pumping round my body. I’ve had one panic attack about an hour ago but it has calmed since. Just want to keep some sleep. Stomach is playing up too.

It’s very possible your doing that to yourself, I just increased from 50-75 for a week and a half and I haven’t had one side effect except for some loose bowls and some restlessness. Well that’s two but you know what I mean lol. Nothing at all serious. I think if you try to relax that you will be just fine.

I managed to get a couple of hours sleep in the end. I had another panic attack. I felt like my skin was burning for about half an hour. It was so weird. Feel very weird still. I guess I just feel it a bit more.

The heightened anxiety/panic attacks is definitely a side effect of the sertraline, I had the burning skin thing as well mostly on my arms and legs. Glad you got some sleep I’m trying to do the same thing right now. 12:30am should be sleeping but nope! Lol

When I first started yes I did, but as the weeks went on they subsided and then they finally went away, I’ve been on sertraline now for almost 3 months and I haven’t had a panic attack in over a month, and I use to get them all the time.

Have you tried to deep breathe yourself out of a panic attack. Google ..How to stop a panic attack in 3 minutes. It sounds daft but it works.

      Sending hugs

Hey guys. Hope you’re well. Today was a day filled with massive anxiety. I felt completely out of it but still went out and about somehow. My body aches from all the fidgeting. I’ve just taken my second tablet and I’m bedding down for the night. I’m so tired but I think the tablet might keep me awake again. We shall see.

Thanks for the update Daniel, I know the anxiety really sucks for a while in the beginning but some say that’s a sign that it’s working, any definitely try to sleep that helps a lot! Keep us updated.

    Hey guys.

So yesterday I had quite a bad morning. My main side effect is just the anxiety and moving around constantly. Can’t sit still. Yesterday afternoon however was really nice. Was calm and relaxed. It was lovely. I slept all last night, too! This morning I’m a bit fidgety again and anxiety ridden. It seems morning are the worst time for me.

Did you guys feel that mornings were bad?

I really appreciate the correspondence. It really helps.

Mornings was my worst time of the day, if I was going to have anxiety that’s when it would happen then started feeling better in the evenings.
