Vestibular migraine...what are your attacks like

Posted , 13 users are following.

Hi,

I have been suffering for almost 2 years now and it is truly debilitating.

I have dizziness (not spinning dizzy, off balance dizzy) I get very bad attacks, but what i struggle with the most is the aftermath.

I have questions for all you fellow sufferers:

What are your attacks like

What are you signs that a attack is coming

How bad/ long does the aftermath "hangover" last for.

Have you found anything (not talking about medication) that helps ease the aftermath.

Looking forward reading your responses, i truly think this condition should be more known by people and doctors.

It may be vestibular migraines. I am also spaced out or off balance.

I have a constant spaced out/ drunk feeling - is this something you're familiar with ?

Yup all the time. That is how I describe it to people. I feel a little drunk. Go to Facebook and find groups there for us. It is filled with people like us.

how is your posture? I ask because many of us have bad forward head posture which is bad for our neck muscles. Look up SCM muslce issues and you will see how you can make your neck better, that is if your neck is also an issue.

I often wonder if that could be the problem because I think my posture is terrible. I am always slumped even when I sleep I feel like me head is tucked in my shoulders

That's how it all started for me for a few months I felt this way then unfortunately it got alot worse. I felt like this all the time but with attacks when the feeling dramaticly increased.

I do work with someone who has the same condition, he has never has a attack but always feels spaced out and dizzy. He has put it down to stress/anxiety as his trigger smile

I have been thinking it could be neck related / I'm having vng testing ect with an ENT next week. If I turn my head a certain way my neck 'snaps' sort of thing - it feels to travel up the back of my head sometimes.

It's interesting that you mention scm as I have had tenderness in the back of my neck towards the back right. What's interesting about this is that also on the right side I have a clicking feeling in noise and feeling on my collar bone when I rotate my shoulder/shrug.(I had just put this down to wear and tear) wonder if it's connected (excuse the pun)

My Neuro thinkis that is what I have. The SCM goes down to the collar bone.

Hi rocksolid.....Thats what I was originally diagnoised with migraines associated with dizziness.....The prism glasses helped alot....needed to get lenses changed 3 times......having some issues now......more dizziness during the day......headaches...eyes hurt...didnt have an appointment till Dec....I did have some issues with sinus end of July....dont know why but my head feels like it swells from inside or some sort of pressure...really bothering me......I hope the botox works for you....Just be careful with the meds if they want to put you on it for migraines.........very dangerous side effect withdrawals etc......I was very likely...stopped taking depakoe June 8  now I need to go back to headache specialist to wean me off gabapentin......taking only 100 mg once a day.....want to get the liquid one so I can drop down 10 mg every 3 to 4 weeks...when I went on 100mg everyother day it got bad by the 6th day...had to go back on it....it may take me 7 to 8 months to get off this stuff.......not doing anything for me...my husband had open heart surgery two weeks ago  doing well but cant leave him all day to go to garden city

I suspect I may have a c1 or c2 vertebrae issue and that the hard lump I can feel on one side is this overrotation!

Glad the glasses have helped. If my doc wants me on meds I will make sure to be careful. I tried anti depresents in the past and they never help. I have a new chiropractor who is also a PT and he showed me that my C2 is not alligned. He said that could be causeing my problem but he is not sure. Hope youe husband feels better.

Last night I stretched my head to the side - as if trying to touch my ear on my shoulder and I felt and heard a huge crack in the back of my neck - I felt it travel down the back of my neck and it was loud like clapping your hands.

Now either I am going completely bonkers but I feel different in a good way ever since. I wonder if I have had some sort of compression injury/problem ??
