Vestibular Migraines

Posted , 2 users are following.

I am suffering from vestibular migraines which seem to cause persistent muzziness light headedness on head or eye movements. Frequently bad headaches go along with these symptoms. I have been put on amytriptaline which I have put off taking but have just started them last night. I was given exercises by a Physio but they are making it worse. Does anyone else suffer from this?

Yes, I have silent migraines which caused visual and balance problems and was put on Nortriptyline.  My consultant said it was better with less side effects than amitriptyline.

Also Sandra your GP or whoever is prescribing you the amitriptyline might not be keen to switch you from amitriptyline though as I understand Nortriptyline is more expensive.  The first thing my GP tried to do was switch me from what the consultant recommended due to the price.

This was a private consultant, I saw so will ask her. Have they helped?

Yes, Nortriptyline 10mgs daily improved things for me by at least 80%.  I took it for over a year and now don't take it any longer but am careful about what triggers my vertigo/migraines which for me is too much chocolate and possibly cheese.
