Vestibular Neuritis

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hi, i went to an ENT and a caloric test revealed weakening in left inner ear. I have balance issues for two months now and some tinnitis. I was told this may recover on its own but takes a long time and i started doing VRT last week. Has anyone had this and improved?

Is this weakiening the same as BPPV?

I wouldn't have thought so Jackie. The caloric test, where they put hot and/or cold water in your ear, is specific for the vestibulo-ocular reflex, and a positive (i.e. "weakening"wink would tend to suggest nerve damage, such as vestibular neuritis, in the affected ear. The Dix-Hallpike, which I'm guessing may also have been carried out on Kim, is the standard test for BPPV.

Sorry about that unintentional smiley. I forgot this system inserts it every time you combine inverted commas with close brackets!

HI No i dont have BPPV, but i have a constant imbalance feeling from the nerve damage. Do you have this and if so, does it get better with time? I also get headaches but i think they are anxiety related.

Jackie, have you still got BPPV? It seems like months since we last spoke about it. Mine lasted two months, but then I got it completely fixed with a single Epley manoeuvre. Can you find someone to help you with this? The ENT doctor I saw was hopeless, but my GP referred me to a vestibular physiotherapist who fixed me in 20 minutes.
