Vigorous exercise and elevated liver enzymes

I have had mildly elevated liver enzymes for two years,  44 AST and 47 ALT with all other numbers normal.  Last year, the dr was not concerned but is this time she is, said to stop drinking (which insulted me because I have about four drinks a month) and take the test again.  I'm finding a lot of articles from NIH to suggest that people who exercise vigorously don't get accurate reads of "liver function" since these numbers actually include "muscle damage."  Muscle damage occurs every time one works out.  I work out 5X week, running 2-3 miles plus weight training with each workout.  Here is one article that is very good in case this is the case for anyone else, too.  It advises an additional test, a GGT test, which can distinguish between exercise-induced elevation and issues of further concern.  Now I just hope my physician will believe me since I do not intend to exercise less to satisfy a number factory.  https://www.agelessforever.net/anti-aging-news-blog/got-elevated-liver-enzymes-here-s-how-to-interpret-your-liver-function-tests

Vigorous exercise is well known to raise AST.  Don't know about ALT, but it stands to reason increased metabolic activity might raise metabolic stress.

Your numbers certainly aren't alarming, so no worries.  Keep exercising and avoid doctors (unless you are ill) for peace of mind!
