Violent movement when dreaming - can it be stopped?

Hello

I experience quite vivid dreams but I would like to ask if anyone can point me in the right direction to help stop violent movement.

Many of my dreams are the usual weird surreal experiences. Many times I have actually woken my partner and exclaimed at the fact that loads of snakes are pouring in through the window or have got out of bed to deal with a situation only to realise that I was dreaming.

During the last few years I have been dreaming about violent situations where I have had to protect myself. This means that in my dream I have punched out at someone, elbowed them hard, or kicked out. The problem is that I am actually doing this. My partner says she knows something is going to happen as I start twitching - short movements before suddenly kicking out, or whatever it is happening in the dream. My fears were realised this last weekend because I elbowed her hard in the back and it understandably scared her.

I don't really know what to do about it apart from sleeping tablets which will induce a sleep deep enough that I am unable to move.

Cam anyone offer any suggestions, please?
