Viramin D3 for Atrial Fibrillation

Hi, I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation in my early 20's, I am now 43.

I was in permanent atrial fibrillation for almost 2 years, Now I get episodes of AF very rarely. I found that taking vitamin D3 (1000 ui), 4 to 6 pills twice a day has alowed me to cut my meds in half, and I have never felt better. My Dr tells me vitamin D is safe to take at this rate. He is also trying vitamin D3 on his other AF patients.

I have been taking 12000 ui of Vitamin D3 a day for over 6 years now with great results.

as a PAF sufferer I'm interested in your post. Was the vitamin D3 planned as an AF med. or were you taking it for another condition?

I started taking vitamin D3 because I was told by my Dr that 4000 to 6000 iu of D3 can reduce your chance of getting sick in winter. Throughout that winter my Atrial Fibrillation seemed to be gone completely, and I even started reducing my meds because I felt so good. I didnt realize that it was the vitamin D3 that was helping my Atrial Fibrillation until spring when I tried to stop taking it. I have also found that when I do go back into Atrial Fibrillation, 2 more D3's and Im back in normal within 20 min. I take 12 vitamin D's a day, 6 in the morning and 6 more with supper.

Hi Darcy, I have just come across your post. I am 'new' to all this AF business. I was taken to A&E last Wednesday with a very rapid pulse and irregular heatbeat, I was making tea at the time, not stressed at all, I am retired, anyway, I had an ECG and was put on a drip with some medication to bring the AF back to normal, needless to say 9 days after, my heartbeat is still irregular but has been slowed down due to bisopropol, I also have been prescribed warfarin. I have seen my own GP who seems to think that I will be in permanent AF forever or until I have any further treatment, (which my cardiologist may suggest when I see him in about 8 weeks time). I noticed that you were in permanent AF for two years, wow, it must have been amazing to be 'normal' again. Since being diagnosed last week with AF I have looked at quite a lot of posts about the condition, some quite scary, some helpful like yours, I have read that vitamin D has had positive effects on AF, however as a new 'sufferer' I am a bit daunted by taking anything without speaking to my GP but I will certainly look into it, anything that will help will be gratefully accepted. I do feel a bit miserable at the moment, I am a big advocate of real ale and my local micro brewery is holding it's monthly tastings tonight, I reckon a half is all I can have, oh well, Cheers!!!

Hi, Your story sounds just like mine when I was diagnosed with AF. They tried 4 different meds to controle my heart rhythm before they found one that worked. Always ask your Dr before you start taking something new. My Dr has been telling his AF patients to try vitamin D, But when I asked my cardiologist, he laughed, and said it was a waist of time, but I could do what ever I wanted. It is proven that this worked for me over the last 6 years.
