Visible pulse. Normal?

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have been suffering with anxiety issues for a couple of years now. For the most part, I have got used to the heart palpitations and they no longer bother me. The last couple of months though you can visibly see my pulse though my body. The worst places is the left side of my stomach and neck. If i was to rest my phone on my stomach it would beat with enough force for it to jump off.

I normally try to ignore stuff like this but a few people have pointed it out to me yet the doctor just tells me not to worry.

The strange thing is that I am actually the calmest i have been in a long time and my heart is not racing all the time like it used to. Yet it never happened when it did.

Any one else experience this?

You might just have a strong pulse, which is a good thing. Everyone can see their pulse if they look at it hard enough, so I really don't think you should be concerned with it. Easier said than done I know!

Have you had an ecg to check for any cardiac arrhythmias. You need an ecg and rhtyhm strip to get a full picture alternatively a 48 hour holter recording. This may help to reassure you.

BTW physical causes are normally ruled out first before anyone jumps to the easy concludion that absolutely everything under the sun is caused by anxiety.

You need to talk to your GP regaeding this and if you have been told all is ok it may be an idea to ask for a second opinion.

Look up your Practice on NHS CHOICES and check and make an appointment with the GP that deals with Mental Health
