Vision going black for 4 seconds?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I’m really worried. Although this does not happen regularly, sometimes I get dizzy and I feel as if my vision is about to go black.  Only once or twice has my vision ever go black while my eyes are open.  I’ve been checked out many times and my dr considers me to be healthy and what ever I’m feeling may be caused by anxiety. I do have anxiety disorder. When I have no anxiety or not dealing with it everything is normal. Of course I googled this and I’ve seen it can be a seizure. This scares me even more!! I’ve never had a seizure as far as I know.  I’m wondering if high anxiety can cause you to be dizzy and loss of vision for 4 seconds. This absolutely scares me to death.

Firstly stop googling symptoms. It's the greatest feeder of anxiety. Secondly anxiety can give numerous symptoms, far to many to list. The old adage of seeing doctor is like a red tag to a bull to the anxiety family.. but Dr equals peace of mind.

    Hi there Katie 🙂

I can relate to this I get dizzy and have problems with my eyes when anxiety is bad,,

just wondering does your eyes go black from around the outside first and start to close in? if they do it is highly possible that it’s tunnel vision, yes it is a symptom and I get it. I feel my eyes closing in if you will then they can go black, ive not been black for as long as you but a couple of seconds. When this first happened it really worried me and I freaked cause I could feel my eyes going but never thought it would be the anxiety!!

so many symptoms I went dr and was shocked that this was one!!

you say it is hightend when you are more anxious this says that may well be tunnel vision.

See your dr ASAP to talk about this, I’m no dr and he/ she can rule any other things out if needed.

    Take care

Only times during high anxiety symptoms, yes, it is tunnel vision but as soon as I voluntarily close them they go back to normal. I’ve had my eyes checked out by my optometrist and every blood work done known to man by my GP. All came back fine. I would describe it like as soon as you walk in to a dark room from being outside all day, my vision is dark with my eyes open that lasts for a few seconds. But this rarely happens. I just get nervous thinking about it.

If you have been checked out and you are still focussed on it, then it will happen . I have lost count of the different things that have happened and demand my full worry attention.. which they love

      Hi Katie🙂

I think myself it’s definitely anxiety related. I’m no dr but this is exactly what happens with me. Your explanation of this is how I would describe it!!

It is unnerving I understand that but take comfort in the fact all blood works and test have been clear.

i  say this all the time but here I go again! Anxiety has so many symptoms some people don’t even believe at times it’s crule how the symptoms affect our everyday life.

       Take care

Have you been seen at an eye hospital? Some have walk in eye casualty units where you can be seen and examined . Optometrists are hgood but an eye hospital has access to more equipment etc.

    You mentioned seizures.

A neurologist should be able to reassure you.

    Take care

We do not have eye hospitals. I’ve been checked out a lot and even expressed all my concerns to my dr. She says I am Ok! I mentioned seizures bc I’m freaked out by them. Had multiple Ct scans as well. All came back fine.

I mean my GP did not reference me to a neurologist bc she does not think it’s necessary bc I do not have a history of them.
