Vision issues related to anxiety

hello. maybe i'm posting this to get assurances too. but i'm scared.
i've had improvements with difficulty in breathing lately. but i noticed i am always dizzy now. also a few days ago, i had something similar to an ocular migraine, seeing zigzag shimmering lights that lasted a few minutes. ever since that day i feel like my vision isn't the same anymore. kinda grainy colored or something and more sensitive to light? in the dark the graininess is more pronounced.
i'm going to have my eyes checked next week, hoping it's just my glasses or something.
do any of you experience visual distortions? when something weird is in my eyes, i worry more. like from waking up since it's the eyes, i'm always reminded something is quite not what used to be. and the cycle is too much. 😭

Hi,yes,Ive had all kinds of visual disturbances through the years. I have anxiety also. I am now early sixtys. Most visual disturbances although scary are benign. Anxiety produces an adrenaline fight or flight response which also can produce weird symptoms. Get a check up and be honest and tell all your symptoms, hopefully then you will find out you are fine and can quit worrying about it. Til then, try and relax.

yes LEE is right. i too have had squiggly lines in my vision. ive had floaters also for over 30 yrs. , dizziness too off and on.
all from anxiety. just get the checkup and then you can relax.
often when you can get some control over anxiety, the vision improves.
you will be fine and so will your eyes! ❤

thank you for the encouragement. sometimes I'm able to be more positive but lately i'm in a negative kind of thinking, thinking of the worst and all.

I had my first migraine with aura (scintillating scotoma, zig zag circle, bright lights, etc.) three months ago. Since the migraine with aura, my vision has been terrible. I used to have perfect vision! Now I have 24/7 blurriness, light sensitivity, trailing, after images, static, floaters, flashes of light, random sparkly dot, inability to focus near to far or vice versa. I went from a normal person with great vision to a mess....all after the migraine aura. So, I definitely know how you feel.

thank you for sharing your experience. also sorry to know this, while i'm relieved i am not alone, it's still saddening. have you noticed any improvements with your vision over time? did you also go for an eye check up?

I have noticed very little improvement. I have had all the scans and blood work...all normal. I have seen numerous doctors including ophthalmologist and neuro-ophthalmologist. Both said my eyes are healthy. All anyone says is migraines. Honestly, I am so sick of not having real answers. I was completely normal three months ago, then the migraine aura changed my whole life (and vision).

Honestly, I am not coping at all. I am on the verge of tears most days. I am single and currently on leave from work with no income coming in. I worry about my future all the time. At this point, I assume my vision issues are permanent, which is frightening. I have anxiety and panic attacks all the time now. I haven't been to work, I am afraid to be alone, and I don't drive very far. It's affected every part of my life...it's awful.
