Visual Disturbances? HELP!

Posted , 1 user is following.

I’m a 19-year-old female. For years now, since I was a kid, I’ve been seeing wiggly, staticky and blurry red colored lines, dots and circles in my vision. I would say that some of the red lines look a bit similar to the lines you would see under typos. These things flicker across my vision and fade in and out. I can see them on anything I look at. I can see them with my eyes opened and closed. They overlap my vision. I can overlook them for a while, but they can be very bothersome. I often see them when:

  • I think about them. (Make myself see them)
  • I’m feeling stressed, anxious and depressed.
  • I haven’t been getting enough sleep.
  • I’m experiencing eye strain.

Sometimes seeing these things can make me even more stressed and anxious 1) because of how distracting they can be 2) because I don’t know why I’m seeing them, and 3) because I fear they may get worse. Sometimes I even lose sleep because of them. I’ve done an MRI scan as a child, and I was told that everything was fine. I regularly get checkups from an eye doctor, and I am told that there’s nothing wrong with my eyes. One doctor said that it could be a migraine, but I doubt that. I've read that ocular migraines only last for about 40 minutes. I can see these visual disturbances for entire days. I’m not on any medications. I don’t do drugs or drink alcohol. I would really just like to understand why I see these things from time to time, and if anyone else experiences something similar to this. I would also appreciate some advice on how to treat/deal with this. Please help. Thank you.

(PS: I also see visual snow, afterimages and floaters.)
