i was at similar serum level and was put on identical daily dose.
research suggests it takes 3 months for vitamin D supplementation to take effect. i certainly found that the pains started to diminish withing a month or so. i was also topping up with exposure to the sun.
have confidence and trust your doctor.
after 3 months you'll have to get back in touch with the doctor to find out what the next plan is: ie do you continue with supplement or not.

An 800 IU dosage is unlikely to help alleviate deficiency unless you are getting plenty of sun exposure, and even then it will take a long time. This kind of dosage is the recommended dosage for maintaining levels in the optimal range as determined by the FDA for people with normal sun exposure and normal vitamin D levels already, rather than to correct deficiency.
If you have had a vitamin D deficiency for a long time and are suffering symptoms of osteomalacia like muscle weakness, bone and joint pain, and fatigue, vitamin D supplementation alone will also not be beneficial. Osteomalacia results from calcium being leached from bone, and calcium supplementation is required to reverse it. Magnesium, vitamin K2, and other nutrients are also important for normalising bone health and vitamin D function when treating osteomalacia. If your deficiency has not progressed this far, you don't have to worry about supplementation unless you're not getting enough calcium and magnesium in your diet.

In deficiency need higher dosages.
current recommendation is about 40,000iu weekly for 7 weeks
(can get 20,000iu capsules)
