Vitamin b12 and accutane / isotretinoin

Posted , 2 users are following.

My vitamin B12 level is 260 pg/ml.

My doctor prescribed 1500 mcg (methylcobalamin) vitamin B12 dietary supplement for 3months (daily one)

I am also taking isotretinoin/accutane , I am at end of my course only 2 months left

Will taking vitamin B12 supplement aggravates acne again?

Is my B12 low

Can I increase with food ( I am vegetarian)

Shall I take nutritional yeast instead of B12 tablets

I am scared taking tablets will again give me acne.

I had taken B12 injections year back and got acne at the same time for which I am taking accutane.

hey! I'm a registered dietitian in the US. I would like to make you understand that treating a vitamin B12 deficiency is more important than worrying about acne. I totally understand that it is annoying to suffer from acne since I also suffer from acne, and I'm also on accutane.

However, it is very dangerous to have low vitamin b12 levels. Therefore, I encourage you to follow your doctor recommendation on taking methylcobalamin. It would also be a good idea to increase your intake of foods high in vitamin b12, since you are vegetarian this is a little more difficult but not Impossible. Try to eat more: fortified cereals, nutritional yeast, Tempeh, Nori Seaweed, plant-based milks that are fortified with b12.

    i hope this helps.
