Vitamin C deficiency questions

Hi, I’m male, 19, suffering from an unexplained chronic illness for 2+ years. The diagnoses I’ve had are:

Unspecified anemia (my iron and B12 are normal)

Low white blood count

Neutropenia

Low HbA1c (non-diabetic)

Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (treated, improved diarrhoea)

Moderate depression

Most recently, I have been diagnosed as having low vitamin C, 6.2umol/L, normal range being 11.4-9999.

I have suffered with a myriad of symptoms, including:

- Chronic daily headache (2+ years)

- Chronic nausea (2+ years)

- Paresthesia in all my limbs (since at least Jan, significantly worse in recent weeks)

- Heart awareness/palpitations (2+ years)

- TMJ type pain

- Dry mouth

- Recurrent balanitis (1+ year)

- Muscle aches (recent months)

- Unexplained weight loss (since spring)

- Exercise intolerance (since spring)

Is it possible for vitamin c deficiency to cause all of these problems? I haven’t found gut disturbance,  paresthesia or headache to be listed as symptoms. Today I’ve started treatment recommended for the deficiency, 2000mg for 3 days, 1000mg a day after for the foreseeable future. When should I expect to feel symptom recovery if this is the cause?

It’s worth pointing out, I’ve truly had every test under the sun. I’ve been something of a medical mystery, the only other diagnosis unchecked was Lyme disease, but this would appear more likely, even if I don’t understand the symptoms/feel a response yet (I sincerely hope I got one). Any thoughts welcome.

Hello. Your best bet is to look at a reputable specialist to know your overall health. While you should maintain a healthy diet. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, drink plenty of juice. Regular exercise routine but should be mild

Have you had your vitamin D checked?  A lot of people are deficient and do not realise it.

    Hi there,

Quite a few things going on for you there and i wonder if some of them are connected to each other without necessarily having a single reason? Vitamin C is linked to growth and repair and helps with healthy skin. The balanitis could be recurrent because of the deficiency as well as due to the anaemia and the parathesia, headaches and heart issues linked to that too? Vitamin c is needed to absorb iron in to the blood stream so who knows even if your levels same fine it may not be being absorbed properly due to the vit c deficiency. The neutropenia could be from nutrtritional deficiency too.

Just curious, What do you mean by exercise intolerance?
