Hi,

Suffered since '07.  Started taking Vitamin D for knees.  Transformed my joints, but also my tinnitus has really reduced & improved.

Then remmbered that my Meniere's never bothered me on holiday...

Seems to be some evidence about ENT patients & vitamin D defeiciency.

Worth a try.

    Hello Simon,

I recently started taking vitamin D and touch wood my flare ups seem to have lessened in severity and my tinnitus has reduced as well so much so I have to listen hard to hear it!  I also take Zinc and Manganese which apparently does something to calcium in your body.

I seem to have less severe flare ups since I started on this regime.

      Simon,

Ho much vitamin D are you taking?  I've read that over-the-counter preparations aren't strong enough to much of anything.  And the vitamin D helped your knees?  Good to know.  I have bad knees too.

      Hi,

Deficiency in Vitamin D affects joints, in childhood a deficiency of Vitamin D can cause a condition called Ricketts.

I'm only taking 10ug of Vitamin bought over the counter, basically on recommendation.  What I've noticed is that my kness got progressively better.  Then I realised that my Tinnitus had receeeded....then I recalled that during a real bad spell of Meniere's I went to Florida for two weeks (sunshine) and it went.  Came back about week after landing. Same with other holidays, I used to get anxious before summer holidays that I would spend my holiday spinning. But it's never happened.

I've had spells where the Meniere's disappeared in terms of attacks and wobbly-ness for quite some time, however, the Tinnitus was still loud. And in the least 4 years my hearing had detoirated.

For me, taking the Vitamin D for about 2 months now, it feels different.

Looked online (my job requires a lot of searching Medical stuff online) and found a couple of published papers with an association of ENT patients having a lack of Vitamin D.

Who knows?  I've tried everything else-this feels different.

      Hi,

Looking online at published & peer reviewed papers there does seem to be a high incidence (although a relatively small samples) of Vitamin D deficiency with ENT patients.

There are bones in the ear, delicate ones too.

My Meniere's appeared after I left University and took up work, which was indoors-a lot.

With Vitamin D you just have to make sure that you are not overdosing, especially in the summer.  10ug is the recommended dose for over 65 by the NHS.  I'm 45 so will ease up in the summer.

    Simmon,

Very interesting.  three years ago I was having intermittent episodes - nausea, ataxia, ect and I wentto Mexico for the winter.  I started having acupuncture and my episodes dissappeared.  Maybe it was the sun and not the acupuncture.  I'm have a recurrance right now after a couple of years with minimal problems.  I live where it is foggy, rainy and there is little sun during the winter.  I'll give vitamin D a try.  It may help my knees too.

    Thanks.

    hi simon,

my husband thinks I have more attacks in winter than in summer and I think he is right, which is why I started on the vitamin D.

      Hi,

Looking at referenced, peer reviewed articles-there does seem to be a link. I've tried all the usual stuff, and even when my Meniere's was at its best, i still new it was there...you know in a supermarket when you turn your head too sharply..

It took about 2 weeks to kick in and then a week of me going around the house, saying 'its gone'...(the tinnitus)

For me, it's worked and working.  Not only have my knees improved, but that horrible feeling that I've carried for years is gone.

Clear headed.  Fingers crossed it continues.  Maybe try a high dose for a couple of weeks, then drop down the dose.  Overdoing the vitamin D is not good.

Today my Tinnitus is a low hum, but not the roaring waterfall of old.

I find supermarkets lighting upsets me alot and in fact all fluorescent lighting does so. I try to avoid them or wear dark glasses.
