Vitamin D - low

glad to see I am not alone in all this..but sad for all of us who have to experience all of this.  I have extreme anxiety because of this and the aches and pains are driving me crazy,  I just want my energy back.  I'm taking 10,000 a day, 5 days a week.  I know it will take several weeks to see any improvement, but my dr. Has been very proactive and I am so lucky to have her.  Can anyone else share their experience.  I'm also taking Prozac and lexapro for OCD and anxiety and stress,  I think a combination of my own compulsive behavior and this Vitamin D problem has just reached its breaking point.  I've had a rough 6 weeks but emotionally feeling better, except for the body aches and pains that continue.  I'm grateful for this forum and the chance to share experiences with others and get a better insight as to what's going on with my body and that I am not alone.

    Hi

I've been having joint pain and some other problems for a long time. Lots of tests to investigate and finally someone tested my vitamin D a few weeks ago. I was put on a similar dose to you and am just waiting for a change.

What kind of aches and pains to you get and where? How low was your D? How long did it take doctors to find out you are deficient?

Over winter my mood has been very low. I don't want to talk to a doctor about that or take anything for it because I've had a bad experience there before. I'm just hoping the vitamin D will sort everything out. Not expecting a miracle but if it gives me some energy so I can get my life back, that would be good. I know low vitamin D levels are linked with depression but I think for me a big part of that is that the pain and weakness has stopped me doing all the things that used to keep me happy.

And spring coming can't hurt either...

    Hope you're feeling some improvement.

What is your level elbmow???  I'm at 13... found out 4 weeks ago....go back in 8 weeks to be retested....

      11. I go back to the consultant in a couple of months but nobody has mentioned retesting. Seems like a waste of time to see a consultant without being retested first.

I'm in the same boat.. another visit to get the paperwork to get retested, they give me levels over the phone.  I want to get other levels too, so it might be worth the visit, just to see where I started at..

      Are you felling any better?

I am feeling better generally but still have some pain and some symptoms which I'm not convinced were ever related to the vitamin D. I also have some new crampy pain around my side/back and am a bit worried about kidney stones from the supplements as I'm on quite a large dose. Ho hum.

      How about you?

Good days, bad days... muscle aches, but it's been so damp here.. rain and snow, not normal for April...The vertigo has been bad, but again, I don't think the weather is helping.

I bought some better magnesium supplements and Vitamin K a couple of days age and felt a little more energetic today, not clean the whole house energy, but I managed to get a few things accomplished.  The health food store here is making a killing off of me this week....but at this point, I willing to try anything that might help.

Been doing a lot of reading, and everyone say the same thing it takes time... hoping I will see more improvement in the next few weeks... I just hate feeling so tired all the time. I wish spring would come so I could get outside.  I hate this weather.. live outside all summer, and can't wait to get back out and everyone is in a grumpy mood, it was a long drab winter.

My back bugs me a lot also, and shoulder/neck area... feel like I've been doing too much lifting or something.

Hopefully it's not kidney stones, fingers crossed for you!!!

What kind of magnesium supplements are you taking? I have been taking some off-the-shelf pills (2x375mg a day) but I have no idea if it's an effective way to get magnesium.

By the way, your vitamin D level was similar to mine but you're taking 5,000 IU a day? Is that enough? I was told to take 60,000 a week.

I bumped it up to 10 000/day.. been doing that for the last couple of weeks.  The steroid my Doctor had me on for 5 days knocked the stuffing out of me, and depelts your D...My Doctor told me 5 000, but everything I was reading told to take more, then 5 000 after my level goes back up.  I also just switched to a liquid Vitamin D, it's fast absorbing apparently.

The health food store recommended Magnesium Bis-Glycinate 200mg.  They told me it is better absorbed, and less side effects.  I just started taking that this week.  I bought one at the drug store, but it was Magnesium Oxide, it okay, but take longer to absorb into your system and isn't the best.

I also added Vitamin k.. my multi vitamin didn't have any in it and I'm horrible for getting enough fruit and veggies that have k in it...my stomach has been a mess for awhile, and I just don't digest the fruit without issues (apparently another symptom of Low D) so I just avoid them, and I love fruits.  I just don't like the heartburn after I eat them.

    Hi Blonde003

I'm in the same boat.... was diagnosed last month...

Tired, panic attacks, not sleeping, aches and pains... and my favorite, vertigo.

I was just glad when my doctor told me I had something... thought I was going crazy.  The panic attacks just came out of the blue.  I was under stress, but not enough to trigger them.

I can handle everything else, but the vertigo is really getting me down.  It's getting a little better, but it's still playing hell on my life.  It just pops up whenever, no warning.  I'm limited on driving anywhere, it's hard cause my oldest is in college 2 hours away, and for the last 3 months I've only got to see her once, we chat online, but I do miss the brat...and would like to see her more.

I've been using Lavender essential oil to help with the anxiety and sleeping... I can mostly get 5 hours straight sleep at night, which is great for me lately.  A friend who is into oils recommended it... and it does help.  I bought a diffuser and run it before I go to bed.  My husband isn't a fan, but I'm sleeping, and not so cranky, so he doesn't say much....It's nice in a warm bath... kills two birds with one stone...

I'm on 5000 iu/day till I go back next month is see my doctor.  Any reading I have been doing say it could take months.. the magic number I see is around 3, but I guess it didn't take a couple of days to become low, it won't be a couple of days to fix it either....
