Vitamin Levels Test

Hey everyone,

I have an opportunity to get some of my vitamin levels tested and I'm wondering before I choose what to get tested, if anyone has done the same and what vitamins they would recommend testing in relation to LS? I'm also borderline hypothyroid.

I know from my limited research I need to get:

- Folate

- Ferritin

- B12

- Vit D

And from the kind contribution by Nancy K B:

- Magnesium

- Zinc

- Selenium

If anyone has any experience of testing their vitamin levels, I'd love to hear from you. I take a multivitamin, but I'm not sure if it's potent enough to actually do anything.

Many thanks,

K

    Hi K

I had routine bloods tested earlier this year which included calcium levels and vitamin d

Both were high with the vit d very high. I'd been taking an oral supplement which I've now stopped. Think I'd been a bit over zealous with the dosing. I wasn't taking it for LS I just decided to take it as I never get a lot of sun.

I think it's great that you are getting tested, makes decisions about what to take so much easier. It's one of my parathyroid glands that seems to be problematic so I'm just waiting to be seen back at endocrinology.

It's all quite complex. I think from what Nancy said I should of been taking something along with the vit d. But Drs have advised no more vitd or anything with calcium at the moment. I'm hoping it all just levels out. I do have to have a  bone density scan after the raised calcium but the waiting list is about 9 months for that in this area.

Strangely I posted last week after a visit to dermatology and as not allergic to creams advised to continue with the dermovate.

I've been flared for months now since a change  in medicines but came home and thought ..what's the point if it's not working...found some medical grade manuka in my cupboard, put that on and within 2 days all is calm so I'm sticking with that for a while.

Look forward to hearing what your levels are...

      Hi Joe,

      Thanks for your reply.

Glad to hear you're finding something that works. I've been thinking of trying medihoney for a while now, but everything I try (apart from the steroids) causes me irritation - it's so frustrating!

Sometimes people do react badly to the steroids. I think if you're experiencing a flare up since changing, perhaps that's a sign they don't agree with you? Have you asked your dr about it?

I'll be sure to report back on my vitamin levels. I sense I will have problems as I'm vegan and although what I eat is healthy, I know my diet could do with improvement and greater variety.

I might try the honey idea - thanks!

      K
