Vivity IOL lens

I had a Vivity IOL lenses put in my eyes during cataract surgery two months ago. I went to a top facility with a top surgeon. My eye was healthy. I have had very poor results. My distance is 20/40. It can only be corrected to 20/ 30 with glasses. I also now have double vision in all three zones as well, and never had double vision before. I am very disappointed in the Vivity lens and would definitely not recommend it. I am very nervous going forward what to do with the other eye that needs cataract surgery. They say you are supposed to have the same lens in both eyes. I can’t imagine going with another Vivity after having such poor results!

Just in case you don't already know, IOL's can be taken out and replaced. It is not without risk and it takes a skilled surgeon and not all surgeons that do implants can do explants but it can be done. It might be worth discussing that option with a surgeon.

You certainly can put a monofocal like a Clareon set for distance in the other eye. It should improve your vision possibly up to the 20/20 level. It will not improve your closer vision though. Perhaps it is OK with the Vivity eye as is.

Did you ask your surgeon why you are having this problem, could it be the surgeon didnt place then lens in properly or is the probelm with the lens itself. My surgeon keeps telling me to go with vivity but l am really worried after reading these bad reviews

Sorry for your experience. Have you considered having it examined by another specialist just to make sure it is not tilted or a haptic outside the bag? Since you are well within 6 months you can consider a replacement.

First, you absolutely can do mix and match. I have a mix and match IOLs. I think maybe due to the fact their are very limited mix and match clinical trial results many doctors will not do it. Though most of the top doctors go to conferences that many times include talks on about mix and match so a bit surprised there.

Second, is the doctor giving you any reason why your results are so bad? Is he saying you need to heal more? Was the lens misplaced? Residue astigmatism to great? Why if your eyes are healthy can you only correct to 20/30? If you can not get a reasonable answer then I would suggest getting a 2nd opinion from another top doctor. What state do you live in? Personally if I did not get acceptable answers then I would contact some of the top doctors in the US and plan a trip to see one for a 2nd opinion.

Finally, if you are having this issue with Vivity then I would only consider a monofocal for the other eye. And depending on what the reason is for the Vivity issue, I would consider an explant.
