i will have retinal surgery next week and the ophthalmologist is unsure if the vivity lens will work for someone with previous retinal scarring. does anyone have experience with this?

    hi !

I had a retinal tear and detachment in 2020 so I had a virectomy with laser treatment of the retina. I have PSC so it should be a progressive cataract. my vision is though still around 60% even after 2 years.

i just been to an ophthalmologist last week who advices me vivity because i wanted to be lens free after cataract surgery. he is use to complicated cataract surgeries.

he strongly warned me to get a multifocal lens, because it takes some of the vision, which in my case already is compromised.

vivity doesn't break the light like a multifocal and the eye will relax more, even with the wider visual range.

so i consider it myself, I am also considering "mini monovison" with Eyhance lens. Ive read that standard monovion is not for all but most people will be able to have the mini because its only a small difference in the two eyes.

its my dominated eye that is being done first, so luckily i don't need to decide right away, because its probably best with distance on that eye.

im 37 years by the way.

I have no experience with retinal surgery and the impact this has on the choice of IOLs. If your objective is to gain some reading as well as distance vision without glasses you may want to look at mini-monovision. It uses standard monofocal lenses. Typically the non dominant eye is corrected to leave you slightly myopic at about -1.5 D. The dominant eye is fully corrected for distance. I use that method and it certainly works for me.

l have PSC cataracts also and need surgery this year, l saw my ophthalmologist today and told him l wanted Eyhance , he said Eyhance is no better then any other monovision and l should go with vivity .

He said l am lucky l am eligable for vivity because l have healthy eyes apart from cataracts. My only concern with vivity is the lower contrast but he said if you eyes are healthy you wont notice any lower contrast

I am not sure what surgery you are having. I had a vitrectomy with peel of a macular pucker. They did not recommend that I use the Vivity lens in that eye. They recommended a monofocal lens. I ended up with the Vivity lens in my other eye and a Light Adjustable Lens in the eye that had surgery. This worked well.
