Vivity lenses implants

Posted , 8 users are following.

two months ago i had vivity lenses implanted in both eyes. i had good far vision but needed glasses to see my computer and to read anything close by. these lenses are supposed to give you excellent far and intermediate vision and an improoved nearby vision. i can now see and read anything at near or intermediate distance which i'm very happy with but i have trouble seeing clearly things which are far away.

my far away vision seems to be less clear. i also noted that in order to see things clearly i need more light.

will my far distance improove with time?

no. the trade off is the range of vision vs quality.

The best thing you can do at this point is to get your eyes tested by an optometrist, and get your eyeglass prescription. That will tell you where you stand with correction for sphere and cylinder (astigmatism). Ideally your sphere should be in the range of -0.25 to 0.00 D. However from what you describe it sounds like it may be more minus or myopic than that. It should be possible to get progressive glasses that would correct your distance vision and still maintain your near vision or possibly improve it too. The optometrist should also be able to tell you if there are any other issues with the lens, such as it being off center or tilted.

    .

If you want to be eyeglasses free, you may want to consider getting one of the IOLs explanted and replaced with an IOL that has the correct power for distance. If was in that situation I would select a monofocal like the Clareon for a replacement. I would leave the Vivity in the eye that gives the best near vision and then use the Clareon in the other eye with a target of -0.25 to 0.00. The surgeon should be able to be more accurate in power selection on a second try.

At two months its a good time to visit the optometrist if you haven't already

Hi Martin, if you see clearly up close with Vivity lenses probably you have some level of myopia. It would be good to check if this is the case.

    .

Regarding the fact that you need more light than before, what do you mean by this? for reading? or for distance activities? in which kind of light?

    .

Maybe this will improve correcting the myopia for far.

    .

Please, let us know how it goes with the glasses, if this would be the solution , I hope it will be solved for you.

what i meant by more light is that i wont be able to see clearly for both near and far vision but especially near vision. for egzample i can read my mobile perfectly during the day but at night i need to brighten the screen in order to read.

I have a friend who has implanted Trifocal and he notices the same near vision as you describe, with the

computer or laptop he needs to set the maximum contrast.

      .

I didnt expect that Vivity has this same effect regarding contrast sensitivity as Trifocal. I don't know if this is the usual outcome.

      .

it is really hard to get this kind of information from doctors.

      .

I hope you find a comfortable solution for your far distance.

Needing more light for near in dim light is to be expected for any and all IOLs that are set for distance vision. The only way to avoid this would be to use a monofocal set for near vision but then you'd need glasses for everything other than near vision.

When we lose our accommodation ability, due to age or having IOLs, we become more sensitive to lighting levels. This is because we get our depth of focus range by having the pupil constrict. The higher the lighting level, the more the pupil constricts, and the better the depth of focus.

I got a Vivity lens a week ago. I have great close vision, good intermediate and fuzzy distance vision, the opposite of what I expected. I'm really, really hoping that with time, my distance vision will improve because prior to having a cataract, I always had 20/20 vision. Now I'm worried about my surgery next week. I planned to have another Vivity implanted in my second eye. Hmmm...

The type of lens is not the issue. What distance did the doctor target? What distance did you discuss with the doctor before the surgery?

It's so soon after the first eye that its healing won't be complete for a while. You might want to consider waiting a month or so before you do the second eye. Then you can make an informed decision.

Side note...don't be disappointed if the lenses cannot recreate the perfect vision of your youth. It isn't possible.
