I have Von Willebrand.  My mother, Father, a maternal Aunt, my daughter and one of her daughters have it too.  I didn't know about it until surgery when it almost killed me due to hemorrhage.  Now I know if I have to have any dental work, surgery - anything that may include cutting I need to go on intravenous clotting factor for several days.

What type are you? I didn't find out until I was 18 soon to be 21 in a few weeks. I found out because I have over 17+ bruises on my thighs. It turns out VWD has caused me to be in severe pain and in and out off surgery to find out what was causing it all and finally found an answers after my whole life wondering what the heck was wrong with me. I hate it because I bleed really heavily at that time off the month and no pills or implanon won't work but I won't risk trying the injections incase that won't work then I'm stuck with it my only other option is a marina which is a no go

One was prescribed Cyklokapron tablets also known as Tranexamic Acid Tablets. For heavy menses you are usually take 2 or 3 tablets four times a day generally for the first four days of your menses. By referal to a Gynaecologist I was put on a course Tranexamic Acid Tablets for seven days with my cycle as for the blood loss and painful clotting.  I also found by taking the tablets every six hours helped to lessen the pain.  Few people realise how much pain you can be in having your menses with Von Willebrands disease; especially in the first few days. One was diagnosed with Von Willebrands in my mid Thirties. You should also be registered at your nearest Haemophilia Clinic at your Hospital. Hope this information helps
