Vulvodynia after posterior repair

Hello. I saw my surgeon today to talk about discomfort I have been having. I am currently doing pelvic floor therapy to help release tension in the pelvic floor and to help break down some scar tissue. I am 2.5 months post op after posterior repair. I have not been able to have intercourse due to the horrible pain. It felt as though something was going to tear apart or was extremely raw. The surgeon today concluded after doing a "cotton swab" test that I have vulvodynia which has been caused by the surgery. He has prescription ed me cream with lidocaine and told me to continue with pelvic floor therapy. I am wondering if anyone else has had this and can give some advice. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I suffered for months after my anterior and posterior repair with severe pain in lower abdomen and vaginally. It takes a good few months with a good pelic floor pyshio to help ease pain. You have to slowly stretch the scar tissue inside and learn how to relax pelvic floor, as the more you tense the more pain u get.
it took over a year for me with dilators and seeing a sexual health counselor until i managed to have intercourse.
sorry but it is a slow progress but it did help me.x

Hi
I had a hysterectomy and rectocele repair last year. I was also left with scarring and internally i was also very tight which was due to the operation which made it impossible to have intercourse due to it being so painful. I was also given lidocaine which helped to numb the pain but not for long. I was referred to a specialist gynae nurse who told me i had to start using dilators to help stretch everything and they also help with the scaring. They come in 3 different sizes and you start with the smallest one and gradually go upto the largest size. I found it uncomfortable at first and it does take a few weeks before you feel any benefit but they have definatly worked. I can now how normal intercourse again. I am on the waiting list for a cystocele repair so im not completely fixed yet but getting there. It might be worth you asking your consultant about them and seeing if he thinks they are right for you? 12 weeks post op still isnt a lot of time after the op so do still take it easy. We all heal in different times and this op is a lot bigger than what people think.
I hope this helps. Im happy to answer any more questions if you have any 😃

I am in total agreement with Karen and Bobsey. This procedure is much more complex than you are told. I would not have even thought about intercourse until 3 months post op at the earliest. Yes,it can be tight and painful and you have to explain to your partner that "stop" means STOP. Lots and lots of lube and a slim dilator to use on yourself until you feel happy. It takes time and I dont understand why consultants say 6 weeks and you can start intercourse. In most ladies opinions say that is far too early.
