Vulvodynia after UTI and thrush?

This is my second experience of what I suspect is vulvodynia. Seven years ago the events recently happened for the first time and continued for months - this time it's been pretty much the same but I didn't know what vulvodynia was back then.

It started with a sudden UTI (initially with no signs of infection in dip test or culture just tiny amount of blood). Doc gave me Macrobid three days worth "just in case" - it helped a bit. The symptoms seemed to stay at a low level, frequency etc for some weeks - and I began swelling in my vulva, feeling spongy etc. I tried thrush medication which definitely seemed to help, but then BANG all in one way the burning sensation both vanished, then came back full force, with extreme soreness and also flu like symptoms and vomiting to go with even more frequently peeing. I ended up at A&E - and was told I had a bad UTI. So again Macrobid. And although this made me feel slightly better they exhausted me, and gave me more thrush despite me taking good probiotics, no caffeine, no sugar etc.

Around two weeks ago I became less swollen finally (had some STI tests done and all negative, forgot to add that) and things seemed to be settling - but now, it's so strange. I am SO sensitive particularly around my clitoris and urethra, I have some burning that increases/decreases but never really seems to go fully. Sometimes when I wipe after a wee it hurts, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes my vulva feels hot, sometimes it doesn't. There seems to be no rhyme or reason and I don't know if this is from using a total of six canesten pessaries over a few weeks since this started, plus fluconazole and also multigyn actigel (which for some reason can trigger me wanting to pee more for awhile after I use it) or what it is. Sometimes sex is painfree and sometimes it burns and/or I can't take manual touching of my clitoris unless I do it myself as it feels very very sensitive. I have a gynaecologists appointment on 26th June, and I hope he/she knows what on earth this is.

Let us know the outcome! I have similar symptoms and the doctors have no idea what it is

      Hey

Thank you for the response. How did yours start? It's completely infuriating when all you think about is how down there feels.

I know how you feel , try using plain water and washing your clothes in baking soda i don't have an appt until July but i have gotten some relief by using just plain water to wash down there. Hope you find out something at your appt.
