Waiting

So I visited my GP today, I told her that it had been a week since I started Amitriptyline and I hadn't felt any improvement with my anxiety and nausea.

I explained to her that I had upped the dosage from 10mg to 20mg as instructed, but there were still no signs of improvement.

She told me that I needed to be patient and wait, apparently it takes two weeks for there to be any signs of improvement with Amitriptyline.

I explained to her that in the past five months I had trial and error with other antidepressants, sertraline, fluoxetine, escitalopram, mirtazapine and venlafaxine.

I had only been able to last a few weeks on most of them. The side effects being too extreme to deal with.

I just really hope that Amitriptyline works for me, i'm so very frustrated and tired. I feel like i'm just surviving each day and not living at all.

The biggest issue (apart from nausea) is the lack of sleep, since taking Amitriptyline it's become difficult to fall asleep.

I've heard about how sedating Amitriptyline is, but it seems to be the reverse for me.

I just feel so tired, I feel like i'm never going to get better.

Hi Robert, I hope you are asleep. But, you can safely add in phenegan or piriton from the pharmacy to help with sleep and nausea, they are OTC. I've had citalapram, temazipan and diazapan and they only work short time anyway without addiction or upping the dose. One other remedy to try is to soak in a warm bath with magnesium salts before bed.

      Hi Karen,

I'm trying to get sleep, sometimes it's easy, other times it's incredibly difficult. I hadn't considered using piriton to help with sleeping.

I think i'll look into the magnesium salts as well. Hopefully the medication will start to take effect soon.

Be patient and stay strong. Yes it takes time and good you don’t have bad side effects.

Do you try anything else to help you sleep. Pills are not the only answer! Meditation, mindfulness, no electronic gadgets 2 hrs before sleep.

Try an app called Calm. They have specific stuff for deep sleep and very helpful.

    Good luck
