Waiting for GallBladder Op

Good Morning,

I have 2-3 Polyps in my GB approx 7mm each. They have been scanned approx 20 times over the last 5 years and no change. (Some NHS scans and some i paid myself). I dont ever and never have had the pain i see some people reporting on here.

So about 5 year ago i got some slight discomfort that lasted a few hours. Doc put me in for an ultrasound, discovered the Polyps and its been monitored since then. In all honesty this panicked my from a health perspective so i changed my diet and actually lost about 4 stone in the first year. Everything is great apart from the occasional discomfort (Approx once every 1-2 weeks) usually if ive over indulged on a meal etc. It may last an hour and is manageable. More like a pressure thing than pain.

Anyway 5 years down the line i had recent update at hospital. They said "You dont NEED to have it out but its up to you" i told them i would appreciate their advice ie should i get it out or not. They told me it may not improve my symptoms, i may still get discomfort, Also that the current state of my GB may never change and i could manage it forever. They did say however as im 40 years old fir and healthy they would suggest removing it now rather than when im a lot older. So we agreed to get it done. Had the pre op and now waiting for date.

In the meantime im panicking, not sure whether i need this done or not. Went to see my GP last week and his answer was the same "You dont need the Op at all but i would say to go and do it, if anything it will be an experience ie your first op in your life" ????????? Very strange suggestions which makes me panic more and more.

Im at a loss which is causing sleepless nights worrying that if i dont get it out it may cause me some harm, meanwhile worrying that if i do get it out it could cause me lifelong implications etc.

    Hello there,

I am currently waiting to have mine taken out, I have 1 polyp but no stones. The pain I've had is completely debilitating. I'm 43 year old Male who has fit and active all my life until 4 months ago, totally bed bound on bad days. From what I've read, I understand that once ur gb starts giving u problems then it will only worsen over time. NHS waiting times are very very bad nowadays so I would suggest u have it out now while u can, unless u can afford to go private at a later date if necessary. Also, polyps which grow over 10mm can be dangerous (but its rare) so that might be another reason to have it done while they're 7mm. mine is 6mm. Go look to u either way and let us know what u decide plse.

      Hi Kevin

I guess everyone is different. Strange i have 2 quite large polyps but nowhere near the pain you experience. I guess it could matter where exactly in GB they exist. Mine are up on the wall and no where near a duct etc.

To be quite honest mate the probably "Worsen over time" is something that plays on my mind. I know i cant expect this to go away on its own, it wont. But having never had surgery it puts me in a panic to say the least.

I had a call last monday asking if id attend a cancellation on the wednesday (the only day my surgeon performs this procedure) i had to decline as i was out of UK with work. So it being Monday again ive been expecting the same call all day today too.

Im 50/50 on what to do. Its reading all the bad experiences that put me off

Will keep you posted and good luck yourself

    ant.

your risk is a cancerous gallbladder later on if they reach 10mm

and the survival rate of that is similar to that of pancriatic cancer, so its a no brainer really.

    all the best .

      Thanks

If only my GP and Surgeon were so direct i wouldnt be looking on google for answers. Its their "You dont need to have it done, its your choice"attitude that has me freaking out and trying to avoid it

sadly its all about money savings now, nit to point blame but thats the way it is and if that bulb still has some light in it, no need to change it right away but you can if you want its your choice.

i was told the same thing as you when i had a large stone in my gallbladder duct, its ok to leave it , its to big to get out abd cause probs in the ducts, we can watch and wait,

i went on to have hours to live 3 years later, with agangreene gallbladder and was so very ill , and mentally to by then , not to mention wanting to die from the pain omg.

i ended up having to have a friend borrow me the cash, yes they wanted cash at that point as i had hours to live,

i still owe it to my friend by the way,

its been 2 years since opp i still have plentyfull problems and pain where the gallbladder was 70 percent of the time but i am alive i guess, i think the leaving it getting infected ect done some damage internally and this is my life niw,

i only wish i just got it out strait away and think i would be fine now if i had off, but to be honest i was terrified :

so my fear caused me the problems i now live with.

my advise would be to get that demon thing out of you,

or you will at best be forever wondering if your polyps will become cancerous and thats pretty much the end if that becomes the case .

good luck you know what to do xx

Exactly what I was going to say.

Without question they would be MORE than happy to leave it as its all about the dosh not your health.

Yes we should at some point.

Still living in daily pain. I was last seen by Gastroenterology 18/12/18 at this appt verbally and via letter I was told I would be seen again within 3 months which will be a year ago in 15 days and I've heard Fxxk all. Yeas I could phone but the secretary is an ignorant and highly obtuse t**t!

hi. I had multiple polyps that grew over a year. They were still below the concern size, but I opted to have my GB removed. I had dyspeptic symptoms for quite a while but now after the surgery, and while it took many months, im feeling good, thank God!. Furthermore, I did not want to have to have ultrasounds yearly. The polyps turned out to be cholesterol. God bless.
