Waiting for Operation

Hi all,

I've been diagnosed with a pilonidal sinus and have a date 14th March for surgery.    Doctor has taken me off antibiotics, but still blood and pus appear daily.    Very painful, especially at night.    Is it advisable to use painkillers?   Would a doughnut cushion help?  Any advice most welcome!

Hi Dave, I tried a doughnut cushion but the pressure was still on the bad place. I have a coccyx cushion now which I find helps. I take painkillers as and when I need to, apply a heat pad when the pressure really builds up (you may want to apply a dressing first) and I alternate Epsom salts or milk and tea tree oil to my bath water.

I had surgery on mine in September, 5 months on it's still here 😡

Thank you Josy. .....really good advice. I will buy the coccyx cushion and see if it helps me. The pain can be excruciating as I'm sure you know. Can't do the bathwater bit as I only have 2 big shower rooms, but I will need to continue the painkillers 😠😠 Sounds like you've been suffering for ages, I really hope you get better soon. Thanks again, Dave

You could maybe try using Epsom salts etc with a compress/flannel.

Evil things aren't they!? Hopefully you'll have better luck than I have and be free of it in March!

      Best of Luck!
