Waiting time for THR 🤔

Hiya Guys...
Was in last October for my RTHR, then late February this year saw the specialist who put me on waiting list for my LTHR, but I'm still waiting and I just wondered how long some of you guys had been on the list before going in....😊
I'm hanging in there but still my life is on hold as can't do very much before ending up in a lot of pain..😞 I'm due to see the GP in a couple of weeks and can ask her for a push, just thought id ask my fellow hippie's..
Stay Safe & Stay Happy..
Pete.😊

HI
I was referred as urgent in January had a pre assessment in Feb where the consultant was very self opinionated so I would not let him operate on me have seen a consultant in Aberdeen about 1 month ago and have a pre op assessment on Thursday but no idea when the op will follow I think it can be up to 12 weeks so I could be looking at October .
hope that helps

hi. this will vary I think. I saw my GP end of dec as suddenly couldn't walk besides long term pain to R hip. had xray Jan .first appt Feb with hospital consultant got listed as urgent but told 16-20 week wait . had op 23 rd May . op was planned for june but got rang for a cancellation so went in 2 weeks earlier. if you can get a cancellation I'd agree to that just to get the OP earlier. trouble with this is were all in the same painful boat.
good luck hope you're not waiting long

Hi Pete
Waiting times tend to vary depending on your area.
For my first hip (which was really bad), I only waited 5 weeks but had to wait for 14 weeks for my other hip - and that was at the same hospital.
If you are happy to state where you are then someone on this forum could let you know how long they waited.
Good luck for when it happens.

Hi Pete, I am in Derby, my consultant appointment to op date was 10 weeks. my doctor for initial appointment to xray, next day, my longest wait was doctor with xray results two weeks and then another 2 weeks for initial consultation. So in summary, 14 weeks all in. I may be lucky but interesting to see other responses on UK waiting times. Hope you get a date soon

I have my MSP and the Ombudsman on the case but if its not resolved soon I will take the choice the consultant gave me " Live with it or have an operation" so it could be a case of just living with it .

I had xrays and my specialist had them within 2 hrs,but then it was in the same building. Why is it we spend or waste time always waiting??? I had elective surgery last December, before that though it was cancelled 3 times. I waited around 4 months though from the initial paperwork being lodged at the hospital. Also I did notice on the paperwork their was a box ticked off by the specialist saying the time period of urgency eg.within 2 wks,3 mths,6 mths and 12 mths. This is in Sydney Australia.

Good Afternoon,
I reside in the United States and wen to see my orthopaedic surgeon the beginning of July of last year and has my total right hip replacement September 12, 2018.
I do realize that in the UK that you have NHS for health insurance but here in the US workers have private health insurance through their place of employment or else if retired and 65 and over have Medicare if they do not have any other type of insurance such as Veterans Benefits or Medicaid (government program for low income people) however I was 66 when I had my hip replaced and I was then on Medicare. Wait times are not determined by insurance type just how far in advance the surgeon is scheduling their surgeries.
I know that things are done differently in the UK.
I wish you you well and hopefully you can have your surgery very shortly.
Regards,
Sue

Hi Monkeypearl
My Mum had her's just over 3 weeks ago.
Went to see Consultant, group session on what to expect, bloods, occupational health assessment etc done November. Was offered a cancellation at 5 days notice in April but not able to take it up.
So that's a wait of 8 months. We were told at the time that the wait was 5-6 months depending on how many emergencies came in as a result of winter conditions and possible stop Jan/Feb of all unnecessary ops if the hospital had to go into lock down mode due excessive needs by patients due to winter illnesses etc.
We're Wiltshire, UK.
All the best. Hope this helps.

As I am in US our time lines are very different. My surgeon books about six weeks out . Just had left hip revision on June 3rd and am planning on doing right hip as soon as I am sure left is sufficiently healed to hold the weight.
