Waiting times feel like forever!

I have had severe lower lumbar spine for over a year now. my last MRI was 2015 results came after a month of waiting,

I have l4-l5 dehydration of the facet joints, tilted pelvis and a shortened left leg. was decided at the time that the pain management clinic could not offer me anything further than the medication I was already on. Then I was advised a Tens machine would help so went along to the appointment seemed okay but when I used it it made the pain 10x worse.

So fast forward to now I was coping with meds and seeing my osteopath every other month. That was until November 2017 when things started getting progressively worse over time.

Now I have sciatic pain down my left leg that throbs and twinges at any point during the day. worse for me at night now. although I have found that the magnesium spray I use does help a bit.

I am taking Amitriptyline 35mg at night just to be able to sleep.

Unable to lay on my back at all

After so long I end up needed to lay down to take the pressure off my spine as it feels like their is a lump in my lower spine area.

Sciatic nerve pain makes it difficult to walk. especially stairs are a challenge.

I am after any help I can get in the mean time I am waiting for:

Physio MSK referral last information was I have a 6 week wait (as of 22/1/18) that mean I may be seen sometime in March.

Also being sent for an X-Ray of both Hips

Then being referred back to the pain clinic for further help.

Really at the end of my tether with all the waiting and it isn't helping me.

Hi Dawn, I practice Bowen technique a soft tissue therapy which is very good for back problems. It's non manipulative working on muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. It helps correct things like tilted pelvis and leg length discrepancy too and is also good to help with pain. I would suggest you find a local Bowen therapist and give it a try especially as you're waiting for physio. Some physios use Bowen ( not many but more and more are learnig the technique) some might say its an un proven technique lacking in scientific study. All I can say is that I get excellent results with all manner of issues, including back pain.

Thank you for the reply, my osteopath does as much as she can and I see her again in 12 days so not too long.

I will have a look at the technique although I have not heard of this?

Dawn there is plenty of info on the  web. The Technique has been in England since 1990's, it's only just really becoming popular. It has been used in the north of England by the NHS in a pain clinic with good results. give Google a go, I'm sure you'll find plenty of info. I trained with "The European college of Bowen studies",  now called CBS or "College of Bowen studies" run by  Paula Esson who was the person using it in the NHS!  There is quite a bit of research being done at the moment to see how it works in particular relation to Fascia- which is what we think Bowen work.s on. If you have any questions I'll try to answer them!!

thanks i did look this up and although it looks good I am not able to have my normal osteopath treatment while doing this.

My osteopath does along the same lines as this anyway.

      Thanks

    Hi,

I have a severe curvature from scoliosis and a short leg. I had an upper curve corrected in childhood, but it turns out that my short leg caused a curvature in my tailbone. I was crippled by the pain (hard to even walk) and was told I needed either more surgery or a narcotic pump. In desperation, I began practicing Bikram yoga. This is a gentle, healing yoga practiced in a hot, humid room. I started feeling pain relief within a week and now, almost 5 years later, I'm completely pain-free without any medical interventions. I could not stand on one leg when I started (I had to use the bar in the back of the room) but now I am completely able-bodied (I just walk a little funny  [cheesygrin] ?). I highly recommend it!

Doesn't sound like I would be able to do this as any humid heat can trigger my asthma off.

      Thanks though
