I am 64 and have severe osteoarthritis, my back, hands, ankles, feet, wrists, elbows and the reason for my post, knees are all affected.I follow my GP's advice to the letter, I have had physiotherapy, steroid injections , and painkillers for pain (opiates) walking now is very painful, I live in a 2nd floor flat and do not drive. The care I recieve from my GP is excellent yet now I need

replacement knee operations ( both knees are affected) I am told Ithe waiting time could be 12 - 18 months for each knee, I am healthy age 64 that means I could be 70 before both knees, excuse the pun, are up and running . I live in Windsor, and would love to hear if this is the case in other parts of the country.

I have checked online and waiting list did say 16 weeks, but I'm sure to make waiting lists appear better they don't tell you it can take 3 - 4 months for you to get your first Consultant appointment. My knee injection appointment took around 3 months to arrive,

    Were you referred through MSK?

You are in quite a central area can you not get referred to a hospital with a shorter waiting time as is your right under patient choice.

Try contacting Frimley Park Hospital Patient advice and liaison services 01276 526530 for advice.

Someone I met (Sussex) insisted on being referred to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and had hip and knee done there with a very short wait.

    Hello Lynne,

I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain.

I know the feeling as I'm awaiting a thr as I have AVN in my hip.

The wait in Wales is absolutely horrendous!!

The first consultant I saw privately after waiting 5 months...when he asked if I was having op done privately and I said unfortunately no... He told me there was a 2 year wait. I was in tears as id been in awful pain for a year.

Luckily I saw another consultant in July and my hip had deteriorated so much I'm now on his urgent list.. Normal waiting list for him is now 3 years!!!

What is the NHS coming to?!

I must've been really lucky. I saw the surgeon within 12 weeks, had my pre op assessment then was admitted after a month. I'm in Dundee, Scotland.
