Wake up

Ever since I was little (5 or something) I've woken up with these people counting money in my head, then everything goes fast. If I walk to open the door it feels like i'm bloody speedy Gonzales. My friend also has these little "attacks"

I really just wanna know what these are, cheers.

    Hi Leah,

Lots of us have minor sleep glitches like this, and they're nothing to worry about.

One of my two "specialities" is loud, intricate music playing in my head when I wake up.

The other one happens if I have to get up in the night to go to the toilet. Then I hear an irritated voice "in the mind's ear" - i.e. not external - complaining that "we" are both having to get up because "she" drank too much tea or whatever last night. This, like the music, goes on for several minutes. On one memorable occasion, quite a few years back, I got up to the usual accompaniment of complaints, and on my way back to bed a couple of minutes later peered round the bedroom curtain. Surprised to see several inches of snow, I started wondering whether I'd wear my green hat the next day or the red one. My inner voice was furious: "It's 3am, we're tired, and she's keeping us up wondering which b****y hat she's going to wear!"

This voice has declined a lot with age, but was going strong till I was in my 50s, and still makes an occasional appearance now, 20 years on. I still hear the music on a regular basis - often complicated symphonic or choral pieces in which I seem to be able to hear all the different parts, even though I'm not very musical.

Unless these things intrude on your waking life, you don't need to worry about them. We all have our own interesting quirks.
