Waking up and seeing shapes?

In my room I have a painting that has a white background.

When I woke up this morning, I glanced at the painting and when I looked away I saw a shadow of the painting.

On my closet I have white patterns on it. I looked at my closet and when I looked away I could see a shadow of the designs.

I looked at the blinds in my room and when I looked away I could see the shadow of the blinds.

The lights in my room were off when this happened.

I panicked and I ran out of my room to splash water on my face.

Once I calmed down, I laid on my bed in the same position I woke up in and looked at the painting , my closet and my blinds and the same thing happened. I turned on the lights in my room to see if the same thing would happen again and it did.

Should I be concerned?

I went to get my eyes checked a few days ago and my doctor said my eyes we're good. I got the back of my eyes checked as well and there was nothing of concern.

Even though eyes are healthy I'm very worried about the "shadows" I'm seeing.

Here are all the medications/ vitamins I take (I don't know if this is related but I thought I should include this just to be sure)

  • Magnesium (250 mg daily)
  • Vitamin B12 (1000 mcg daily)
  • Vitamin C (500 mg daily)
  • Vitamin D (12.5 mcg daily)
  • Iron (300 mg daily)
  • Eye drops (Thealoz Duo 3-5 drops daily)

This sounds quite normal...its just the after images and most people experience this at some time. Its an illusory effect caused by the retina/optic nerve and brain all working together. Dont worry.

Some people find these fascinating .
