Waking up easily startled and shaking

Hey guys!!! Im 19 years old and for about 4 months now I've been suffering from BAD anxiety mostly concerning my health. Every little sensation I get I think there's a problem. I haven't yet talked to my doctor about possible medications but I plan on it soon. But for maybe a month now I've been waking up startled and then my body feels like it's trembling/shaking and sometimes I'll have heart palpitations. This doesn't happen all the time it seems like it only happens when im in between sleep and being awake like if I wake up for a bit and dozing back to sleep. And I think most of the time it's caused by a sound in the background like my phone or tv. But I can't really figure out why? Is this a normal symtom of anxiety? I'm not usually easily startled and why does it only happen when I'm asleep?

I too have been trying to think myself through these attacks I've been trying to tell myself it's just the anxiety and go back to sleep. I hope you feel better it can be so exhausting sometimes. I'm glad I'm not alone though!!

This has happened to me a few times but in the middle of the night. I looked it up once and it came up with nocturnal panic attacks. I think it's highly likely this is what you're describing. Also since you said you're anxiety has been bad lately that's probably what's been triggering it. Just like if someone had a nightmare they might have had a bad day or been worried about something. It's hard to control them since they happen during sleep but I think the best thing you can do is try to control it when you're awake through breathing exercises ect. If you do this it might happen less, that's my theory anyway
Also controlling the anxiety throughout the day would probably help you experience them less often during sleep because the mind hasn't been under as much stress. So during the day try to keep yourself distracted from your anxiety, this can be hard to do so try to do something you really enjoy and makes you happy

Thank you so much for responding!! I also looked it up and it said the same and it matched what I've been experiencing. The first time it happened to me I was so scared. But it's happened a couple times now I've become kind of used to it and just go back to sleep I just wanted to see if I was the only one who experiences this. I will definitely be doing some breathing exercises to see if it makes it better. Thanks for the advice!!

hello, trust me when i tell you, youre not the only one, you are not alone. I am 19 but i have been suffering with real bad anxiety since i was 14. Mine are mostly physical symptoms which is the worst kind because im often assuming im ill or theres something terribly wrong with me. I could easily be feeling good and then out of nowhere i will get heart palpitations, or racing heart, shortness of breath, and lightheadedness. The lightheadedness is almost always there and thats the scariest part. Ive gotten checked so many times and doctors reassure me its anxiety but anxiety makes you feel like you're always in danger. It definitely feels like it has gotten in the way of my life. but just know it won't harm you. its a process but you'll be ok! feel free to message me if anything

Thank you so much!!! It feels good to know that I'm not alone. My doctors have also assured me that it's anxiety. It gets really exhausting feeling like this everyday. To know that people go through similar physical as I do is much more calming.

Hi I wanted to tell you that you are very young and you will grow out of it. You are still growing, school, job, social life can cause anxiety. I want to tell you about what helped me with my anxiety, get a psychologist and talk to him/her, exercise, eat healthy, and do yoga (pranayama). This is what helped me overcome my anxiety. I also take Vitamin D, Magnesium 150 ml supplement one a day and 1 teaspoon of honey dissolved in water. Low levels of Vitamin D affects mood and magnesium is very important and i find it relaxes me when i take it. Last but not least honey gives you energy. Please research magnesium before you take it dont take high dosage its not good for you. Daily value is 400 ml and you get magnesium when you eat food so you don't need large dosages. But before you take magnesium google side effects so that you know when you are overdosing. There are different types of magnesium read about all of them before you choose to buy one of them. I hope you get better soon. Wish you all the best. Yes last thing don't take vitamin D with magnesium take one in the morning and one at night 3-4 hours before bed. Make sure you don't have any allergies or that you are taking a medication that is not safe to take with magnesium.

My suggestion to you is this sooner you treat your anxiety faster it will go away.
go to cardiologist and ask for 24 hour heart monitoring. Because you think that your problem comes from heart you need reassurance that your heart is healthy and fine.
You need to manage stress i can't emphasize enough how good (Pranayama Yoga) is. It will make you calm and help you to manage stress and anxiety. Google it there are lots of videos and try for 20-30 mins. Just relax.
Try not to spend your time on your phone and computer 2- 3 hours before bed. Relax do yoga, read books.
Dont eat food after 7 pm if you can, your body can't digest it and it gives you discomfort during night.
Make a schedule of things that you have to do and things that are fun/relaxing to you, be consistent with your schedule. Eat food around 7 pm wake up same time eat bekfast same time sleep same time. Little thing will add up and you will feel better. You need good schedule.
Don't worry you will get better and you will never remember your anxiety if you follow the steps. If you can't follow them always get enough sleep during the night. 8-9 hours of sleep.
