Waking up with aches from Knee

Posted , 8 users are following.

I know this sounds simple, but it hasn't happened before. I am 17 weeks post TKR and last night I woke up twice from pain and had to take pain mess. Are there new things going on in my knee? Maybe I exercised too much but this has never happened before, enough to wake me from s sound sleep. Thank you.

I actually think you're the first person I've heard from who hasn't been woken up with the pain. For the first 12 weeks I was woken several times with the pain and was forced out of bed by 4am everyday as I couldn't take it anymore.

I'm 21 weeks post now. I don't suffer as much but expect to again soon as I have further surgery in just over a week.

If I over do the physio, I do suffer more at night. You're probably forgetting more about the knee now and going about your daily routine. It's easy to strain when not thinking about it. I'm sure you'll be back to your normal sleeping tonight.

Kathryn, I didn't mean to sound like I've always had a good sleep after TKR but I guess I have been sleeping better the last few weeks and now the last couple of nights I've been woken up in pain. I think I may be doing too much too soon. Thanks for all the replies.i was just worried something new was happening.

    Hi

I am 12 weeks. Came off all pain meds and only take something depending if Iv had a busy day.

But - I have always had a problem night times - I change positions every couple of hours so never sleep for long, if I sleep deep and wake up which ever position my leg is in I find it has become very stiff and uncomfortable and takes me a time to slowly move it.

If I have a pillow between my knees I have to straighten my legs before moving.

Anyone else experience this, I so hope I will eventually be able to sleep longer and be comfortable.

    Sue x

I'm 8 weeks and sleep like you - change position all the time and bolster pillow between knees but the only thing is, when I do change position, i can't just roll over, I have to sit up and rearrange the pillow to make it more comfortable!  Then I cant get back to sleep ... a vicious circle throughout the night sad

Incredible! A t seventeen weeks it's the first time this has happened?  It was every night for the first two months in my case.  However, as you haven't had it before, I suppose it could be more important in your case. . . What is true is that nerves suddenly seem to come to life weeks after the operation, and can cause considerable pain . . I suppose  in that case it is actually a good sign in that they are coming back to life.  Provided there is no excessive swelling or heat, I would think it's as you say . .perhaps too much exercise?  All the same if it continues and really worries you . . see the doc!  I certainly found some nights were more painful than others.  I wonder if with increased mobility you are moving the knee more in your sleep without realising it?
