Walk after 4 weeks of broken shin.

Hi. So its been 4 weeks since i broke both fibula and tibia about 5 inches above the ankle. They did surgery and put in rod and nails. And i've recently started to put wieght on it. Today i put full weight on it with little to pain whatsoever. Just mild discomforts at the ankle. My question though. Is would this little walking interupt the healing or anything?. As i said..there is no significant pain. Just slight muscle pains which are normal.

Thanks

    Hi,

They do say weight bearing can help the bones to heal but despite there being no pain I would suggest you only fully weight bear on advisement from the hospital.

    Good luck x

Nope. I too had the same thing only 8 weeks but I remember it would hurt when I overdo it like walk too much and stand a lot without sitting down. Is normal to have a bit discomfort but you'll manage.

Had your doctor said you can begin putting weight on it? I just have a very easy, nondisplaced break in my fibula and I’m not allowed to even start putting weight on it till my 5 week appointment this Friday. I think it’s important to follow your doctors direction on this. You wouldn’t want to set back the healing process or cause something to heal incorrectly.
