Walking becomes agony

I have always enjoyed fairly long walks but in the last few years my left foot especially has caused problems. I can walk a couple of miles and then I get this pain stemming from the sole under the toes and experience severe pain if I catch an awkward piece of ground or stone. The pain feels like bruising under the toes and sole.GP suggested orthotic domes which I acquired and fitted in my walking boots, but only marginal benefit. I get the pain when I mow the lawn in my wellington boots.

Anyone else experience anything similar? - does metatarsalgia fit this ?
