Walking boot pain but not in injured areas

I have a stress fracture in my navicular bone in ankle. Doctor put me in walking air cast. I've been in it for 6 days and not due back at doctors until I've reached 3 week mark. While my ankle doesn't hurt, everything else in my lower leg does! My calf muscle is painful and the bottom of my foot feels like someone hit it with a bat. My toes even hurt. I've been icing and elevating. Is it normal for areas surrounding injury to hurt too?? I feel worse than before I had the boot. Thanks.

Yes unfortunately. The pain you're feeling is probably muscle cramping. It can be extremely painful! It will settle though. Give another week and it should feel better. Hope this helps 😊

The only thing you need to watch is swelling and circulation restriction. If it's agony, I get the size of the boot and swelling checked. 😊

Hi Melissa,
Are you sure the doctor okayed you for weight-bearing in an air boot (you were vague about what you are doing in boot, so excuse me if I misunderstood)?
Conventional treatment for a navicular stress fracture generally calls for rest/non-weight-bearing of fractured foot for 6 weeks or so.
It is hard to understand why your calf would hurt when you are not weight-bearing. I haven't heard of a lot of patients having such pain when they are NWB in a moon boot.
So I hope I misunderstood and you are actually off your fractured foot for the duration, pain or not.
