Walking Poles!

While out this morning walking the dogs, my husband spoke to an older woman walking with alpine poles. She had a bit of a limp so he asked her if she had just had hip surgery. It turns out she was 4 weeks post op and possibly in her 70s. As she explained to him, she couldn't get on walking with two canes but found the poles very easy. So he went out and bought me a set with shock absorption! Just wondering if anyone else has tried these?

    HI month jam,

that is a great alternative, as long as she keeps movin. Hopefully she continues with the regulat check ups and will eventually get strong enough to walk without any assistance.

I used trekking poles as walking aids for years before my THR. They are wonderful! I know that Rocketman here on this site got them (with the shock absorbers) after he hurt his shoulder using a cane while walking goodly distances. The poles were easier on his shoulders.

I haven't been able to use them for my recovery since I have a very severe limp and still need the walker or crutches. Using the poles causes too much pressure on my lower back.

    Hi Jam,

They seem perfect to me - I am going to get me a pair too - it also has the benefit that you will be using your arms which will help you , I think, to walk properly -

and looks good on us !!!

    big warm hug

Yep - see my website - I was advised to get them by my physio because the walking sticks were creating problems in my shoulders.

Due to my current leg length discrepancy, walking with the poles caused me severe back and knee pain. I will have to wait for things to even out before using them full-time.
