Walking post hip fixation surgery but experiencing lots of aches and pains lately

Hi,

Due to an accident I had this year in march I unfortunately fractured the neck of my femur and had to have a hip fixation surgery. Unfortunately Im very young only 17, 16 when it happened and quite an active person. Im 5 months post-operation and have my hopefully final post-op by the end of next month. However ive been finding that sitting down for long periods of time irritates my hip a lot. It gets achey and sometimes get shooting pains around where the plate and screw is. Then when i stand up its very stiff and i find myself limping a lot. This is a problem especially in school because it makes it hard for me to focus and sit normally during classes. I really need advice on what I should do. I want to keep being active but lately my hip is feeling very irritated. If anyone can help that would be great!

Thank you!

I had this too but unfortunately the fixation didn't hold in place. As a result I have had to have a total hip replacement. This is a lot better but am still limping slightly after 12 weeks. You should have an x-ray to see whether the fixation is holding. Best wishes

At your age it could simply be that your hip has healed and your fixings are ready to be removed.

This is not usually done in older people because they sadly don't have such good bone mending capabilities, they will xray and make you aware that its healed and then remove the hardware and that will be as if you never had a fractured femur, let us know

SOunds like you may need to go to the nurse's office to rest and ice.  Ask your parents, to check in with the doctor and get a medical note to allow you to ice during the day.  HANG IN THERE and GOOD LUCK!!
