walking with a limp

Hi

Can anyone tell me if still walking with a limp after THR is normal. I'm 7 weeks post op and stopped using my crutches about 3 weeks ago.pain isn't too bad apart from getting in and out of car and a bit of pain in the night when im bed. I had a bit of a limp before my op obviously due to my hip problem? But I thought that would go.is this normal? And will it go eventually?

I too am 7 weeks post op and not on crutches anymore, the physio said I didn't need them .She also said I have a slight limp but thinks it's because of my other hip that may need doing soon as I am having pain with this one. Mine seams to get worse in the evening or when I am tired. I am going to see the consultant tomorrow for my follow up so hoping he can help.Have you had your follow up appointment yet?

I'm so glad you asked that question. I was about to ask the same thing.

I am 6 weeks post op and I am still limping without the sticks, which is really frustrating.

So if anyone has any advice of timescales, that would be appreciated for both me and Lisa.

Yes, going back to work tomorrow, and still limping.  I have ANTALGIC gait.

See the website - search for GAIT in the index.

      Hi Graham

This is how I walked before my op, but still walking like it now. I thought op would rectify this x

I think it will pass eventually - depends on why you are limping.

My leg pain is causing my Antalgic limp (see videos), when the muscles have recovered properly, that should disappear.  Lots more recovery to do, it doesn't stop at 12 weeks you know.  In fact I wonder if it ever stops.  We need to keep as fit as possible to keep mobile.

Thanks everyone - I'll be back for the weekend, and some days next week as I am on a phased return, so I get some rest days at home smile

Very tiring.  I just went in, logged on (remembered my password for the PC !), cleared my emails (not too many thank goodness), made a coffee, booked some holiday, made a coffee, went home ... just 4 hours, but I was shattered.

Today, I have been doing DIY at home, had a shower, and now have my feet up on my recliner 'throne'. It amazes me just how my walking has improved, and running around the house doing jobs helps get my mind back into a normal place.

Tomorrow we go to friends for lunch - that will be nice and restful.

Then I have another 4 hour day on Monday ....

Take care, and remember, it will get better, but slowly.

I am 7 weeks po but don't feel ready at all to go without crutches yet.  Do you find that when you walk alot with a limp that your back starts to hurt?
